Generation No. 1

1. JAMES M.1 PUGH was born in Wales, and died 1724 in Uwchlan Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania. He married JOAN PRICE 1692 in John German's house, Radnor, Pennsylvania, daughter of DAVID PRICE and JOAN AWBREY.

Notes for JAMES M. PUGH:

James was the first of my Pugh’s to come to America in 1682. He came as an indentured servant to a Mr. Bevan. (Bevan was related to Joan Price) He settled in Chester County, PA after serving his time as a servant. He staked claims to a total of 700 acres of land in the Uwlchan Township of Chester County, Pennsylvania. He built up quite a fortune, owning a grist mill, a tannery, as well as a large plantation. James made his will in 1723, leaving 200 acres of land to each of his sons, John and Thomas.

James moved from Radnor MM to Chester County and settled in Uwchlan. He lived for a time at "The Plow" in what is Robeson Township, Berks County, now, but died at his home on French Creek. His will was proved Aug. 25, 1724, and recorded at West Chester, Will Book 1, p. 161.

John German came to PA from the County of Radnor in South Wales, arriving in 1683. He was buried at Radnor "ye14:12mo:1697. James and Joan married at his house.

vi. JOAN PUGH1, b. Unknown; d. July 17, 1744; m. WILLIAM WILLIAMS, October 03, 1723, Uwchlan MM, Chester County, Pennsylvania.

Notes for WILLIAM WILLIAMS:

Letters of administration on the estate of William Williams of Vincent Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania were granted to Joan Pugh Williams on Apr. 25, 1744. Joan is also mentioned in the will of her aunt, Mary Price Roberts. It lists her as a "cousin", although she was actually her niece.
