George Erion, the Rag man.

The data used in this article comes fro the account book of George Erion, a ragdealer and farmer of York Co. Pa. ., and Augusta and Rockingham Counties Virginia. The book was most likely one of those that reads from front to middle , and turned upside down from back to front which probably accounts for the mixed up chronology of the following records.

George Erion b. 28 October 1761 married Christina Grimm b. 12 October 1751 d. 20 April 1793 on 15 May 1781 in York Co. Pennsylvania.

October 12, 1751: My first wife Cristhina is born by day time and her Godfathers and Godnmothers Whas John Bushon and his wife in York Co. Pennsylvania.

May 15, 1781: my wading whas with Cristhina Griman with old Philp Grimsoldest daughter mand she diyd for ne the 20th day of April 1786 My Wife Wheen she diyd she left two chilodren Phind and the fivte child she has taking that one son along with her.

May 26, 1782: My daughter Babary is born by ten o clock in the morning and her Godfathers and Godmothers whas old Phil[ Grim and hw wife .Before Mr. Wackner Minister she whas the first child.

November 10, 1783: My son Philp is born by three o clock in the morning and his Godfathers and Godmothers whas old Philp Grim and his wife before Mr. Wackner Minister he whas the second child.

Feb. 13, 1785:My wife have born two daughters in about three o clock in the afternoon and tha diyd in about a halfe an our the same time then whas sic child in Codoris township in York County Pennsylvania.

April 20, 1786: My wife born one son about two o clock in the morning and my wife diyd in about two o clock in the afternoon and my son diyd in about six o clock next morning after my wife that was the first sic child in Codoris York County in Pennsylvania.

1790: In the year 1790 in April My wife Elisabeth have made the Messels and her daughter Christhina and my son Philp tha have made the Messels in Pennsylvania in Skyis house. In the year 1802 my daughter Badzy and my son jacob tha have made the Messels by old Peter Borkholders in Virginia State in Rockingham County.

1793: In the year 1793 in Januvary My daughter Cristhina have made the Smoll Pox in Pennsylvania by John Gro. In the year 1797 in Februvary my son Philp have made the Small Pox by George Kalers in Augusty County in Virginnia.

1793: In the year 1793 in March my first fatherin law Diyd and baryad and he whas sixty od year old in Pennsylvania.

1796: In the year 1796 in Februvary my Barbary have made the small pox by old Philp Grimms in Pennsylvania in York County and she torn to be a bade carl.

 

Sept. 15, 1797 I have promise to my son Philp the sum of L20:0:0 from vendue I have haeld in Pennsylvania i have made a promise to my daughter Babary if she is a good girl I will give her L20:0:0 as well as to her brother Philp but she tornd to a bade girl now I will not give her more but 8 dollar for her Gast and a spinning weell from the time she turned to a bade girl. Sept. 15, 1797: I am in date by my son Philp that I have made a promise to him from what he have earnd fro the time that is manshant above by Daniel Karver and by Fredrick Kklins and by Cristhin Founk the sum comed togeder what I have promise to him L16:0:0 with lawful.

January 6, 1798: I have promise to pay my daughter Babary the sum of L5:0:0 in kash I will promise her a cow and a bade and badestate and gast and a spinnen weill and a good freedom clos if she is a good call . I have made promise to her L20:0:0 as well as to her brodder Philp but she did not go with me home to Virginia and that made me drop 5 pound and now she is a good call I will give her what I have manshant.(page crossed out)

January 6, 1798: I have payd my daughter Babary her gest from Pennsylvania . I will give her two ye sheep or in money 10 if she is a good call ditto and two dollars for a new fine hat in the year 1799 and a new spinning weell.

September 24, 1799: I will promise my daughter Babry 8 dollars of my on for her gast and spinning weel that I have bodt of her as soon as posibel.(page crossed out)

January 15, 1800: My daughter Babary have born two tweens or two daughters on Catty and one Badzey in Rockingham County clos by the Shennandoah Rever in Virginia State by David Trussels house.

December 1, 1800: My son Philp is want a way from me as a bade boy I have hade promise him L20:0:0 out of the wandue paper and 16 pound of what I have hired him away but I will drop all tell to a cow I will give him if he is a good boy from the time that it this manchant above. (page crossed out)

March 18, 1802: I have payd my daughter Babary in stor goods 3 dollars and a halfe remaing to her yat 4 dollars and a halfe . In the year 1802 I have payd all to my daughter Babary. For she tornd out to a hor that is her name a hor (Erion decorated this word with a scalloped circle) (page crossed out)

1806: In the year 1806 in Jan. I have herd that my first mother in law diyd the first day of March in the year 1806 the old Philp Grims wife and she whas 83 years old when she diyd and her name whas Barbary Grim and she whas living in Pennsylvania in Cotorys Township in York County.
