He had a number of vocations during his life, making his living as a painter, miner, proprietor of an interior decorating business with his oldest son, 'Bud', and for a time managed or worked in a tavern near the Frostburg depot. According to family lore, Harry 'disappointed' his staunchly Protestant family when he took Anna Kirby, an Irish Catholic, as his wife. Nevertheless, his family remained in Maryland for the most part except for a few children that settled as far away as Florida. |
