| Christian Syvertsen Skugerud Rothsay, Minnesota I was born at Tronlia, Grenskogen in Sigdal, June 17, 1852. My parents were Syvert C. Skugerud and wife, Ingebr Olsdatter Grnseth. I was baptized in the Vatns church by Pastor J. Stub and was confirmed in the Holmen Church by young Pastor J. Stub in 1866. My folks owned Skugerud and I grew up there. My teacher was Kittil H. Dahl. When I was 19 years old, I left with my sister Jran for America. Rochester, Minnesota, was our destination. We arrived there June 11, 1871. From there we went 18 miles west to Dodge County. I stayed there for seven years doing farm work. In 1878 I went to Wilkin County and took the homestead where I am still farming. I was married in 1886 to Gunhild C. Banare from Rollag, Numedal. We had seven children and all are living at home, so we have great help with farming. We live only four miles from Rothsay, which is our market place. It is different from when we settled here. Then we had to haul the wheat 20 to 30 miles to market. Sigdalslag 1914. | |||||||||||||||||
