| Pioneer, Mother of 11 Children Dies Mrs. Ellen Carlsrud, one of the early pioneers of Akron township passed away at her home there, Friday forenoon at 11:30 AM October 3rd. Death came, following an illness of about two months, during which time she was confined to her bed. She was born in Norway 77 years ago and was married to Ole Carlsrud. They came to America in 1879 and came directly to these parts, at the time many other settlers were following the GN rail road into the new frontier. They built up their home in Akron and eleven children were born to them, all of whom reside in the immediate vicinity of the old home, and all of whom were at her bed side, when death came. The children are: John and Thora who are at home, Reinhart, Fred, Anna (Mrs. Ole Gronseth) Tille (Mrs. Oscar Sabbe), Minnie (Mrs. George Hauger), Hilmer, Albert, Olga (Mrs. Ed Thomas), and Ella (Mrs. Fred Peterson). She is also survived by her husband, thirty-three grandchildren and one great grandchild. She was devoted to her home and family, where she will be sadly missed and by a large circle of friends. The funeral was held Tuesday. Eleven Children At Bedside Family and Friends Mourn Passing of Good Woman near Rothsay Rothsay - October 4 - Mrs. Ellen Carlsrud passed away today at 11:30 a.m. at her home in the town of Akron, Wilkin County at the age of 77 years. She had been in poor health the last four years and confined to bed for two months. It was the first break in a large family circle. She was born in Norway and married there to Ole Carlsrud. They came to America in 1879 coming directly to Rothsay and have farmed in this vicinity. Eleven children were born to them, all living in the near vicinity of their home and all were at the bedside as she passed away. They are John and Thora, who are at home, Reinhart, Fred, Anna , (Mrs. Ole Gronseth) Tillie, (Mrs. Oscar Sabbe), Minnie, (Mrs. George Hauger), Hilmer, Albert, Olga (Mrs. Ed Thomas) and Ella (Mrs. Fred Peterson). She is also survived by her husband, 33 grandchildren, and one great grandchild. She was devoted to her home and family where she will be sadly missed and by a large circle of friends.
