| MRS. ANNE AMUNDSON OF ROTHSAY ATTAINS CENTURY OF LIVING ROTHSAY-An unusual birthday anniversary is being observed in this community today. Neighbors and relatives have been calling at the Anne Amundson home, north of this village to pay their respects and extend good wishes to Mrs. Amundson who is just 100 years old today. Mrs. Amundson was born in Sigdahl, January 7, 1861 and came to this country with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Syvert Skugrud, and four brothers and two sisters in 1874. They settled in Dodge county, where they resided until 1880, when the brothers and sisters came to the vicinity of Rothsay, each finding employment on farms. Married at Hedemarken Anne stayed at the Tollef Gronseth farm most of the time until she was married to Jacob Amundson on July 14, 1887. The ceremony took place in Hedemarken church in Oscar township. The young couple spent the first winter with his parents on what is now known as the old Wood place, 2 1/2 miles southwest of Rothsay. The following spring they moved to the farm home which has remained in the family for the last 73 years. Mr. and Mrs. Amundson through hard work and thrifty habits developed one of the better farms in Tanberg township. They raised four sons and one daughter. Mr. Amundson died in 1924 and two of the sons passed on more recently, namely Albert (1939) and Rheinard (1951). Selene and Carl have remained on the home place most of the years, making a good home for their aging mother. The other son Johnnie, purchased a farm southeast of the village where he has resided with his family for several years. Hoever they frequently visit at his mother's home. Good Health Until 10 Days Ago Mrs. Amundson has been in fairly good health up to about 10 days ago when she had a light stroke and had to be put to bed. This she disliked very much as she used to sit up and crochet, as well as visit with the frequent callers. She also enjoyed some of the TV programs. She always knew what was going on around here and her memory was good until recently, when it started failing some. The sons and daughter, nieces, nephews and neighbors are hoping that kind, patient Mrs. Amundson will recover from her present affliction and remain with them for a long time to come. Her sister, Mrs. Halvor Pederson and Berrit and the four brothers, Chris Syverson, K. S. Skugrud, Ole Skugrud and C. Syverson, have long since passed away.
