Christian Dunbar listed as head of family with 6 children for Randolph County, NC. This may be the parent of Archibald Sr. Christian is Scottish for man or woman but usually a woman.

Archibald Dunbar (Senior) came to America from Dundee, Scotland, as a boy maybe with his parents. He settled in Randolph Co., North Carolina, then went to Indiana and married Elizabeth Bell in Jeffersonville, Clark Co., IN on Nov. 26, 1818. After marriage they settled in the Wood Township, Clark County, IN area, as they were listed in the 1820 census there. Also shown in the 1820 census in this area is James Dunbar age 26-45, with a son under 10, and 2 girls under 10 (no wife). This James might be the brother of Archibald. In the 1830 census Archibald and family are located in Henry Co., IN. There again was James Dunbar in the Henry County area also, this time with a wife and children.


The names of most of the children of Archibald and Elizabeth Dunbar were gathered from the probate records of Benjamin Dunbar, Tama County, IA.
Also we learn from the records that no parent has outlived Benjamin, so Archibald died somewhere between the census of 1870, Tama Co., and 1877 when Benjamin died. As of yet, we have not discovered where Archibald Dunbar (Senior) has been buried, although both Benjamin, his wife Phoebee, and Archibald's second wife, Mary Drake Judge Dunbar, are all buried at Iowa River Cemetery in Marshall Co., IA.
