2. John B. ARMITAGE ⁽³⁾⁽⁶⁾ was born in 1820 on the Armitage farm, Galen, Seneca (now Wayne) County, NY near Seneca Falls. He was a minister for the Methodist church. He died on 30 Apr 1884 in Millers Corners, Ionia, Ontario Co., NY. His death notice says born 1820, died aged 84 years? He was buried on 2 May 1884 in Millers Corners, Ionia, Ontario Co., NY. The cemetery is about three doors from the postoffice in Ionia, across from the firehouse.

John B. was one of six sons. He preached for several years in the Methodist church. His last assignment was Ionia, NY, 1867-1868. (called Millers Corners at the time) John B. met his wife Mary P. Reynolds at the Methodist school in Lima, Livingston Co. NY. John went to the seminary in Lima, NY.

They lived in Ionia, NY on their farm following John's retirement from the ministry. The house is on county road 14, pass the postoffice, the third house after Cox Rd. on the right (count the corner house) was the Armitage place. More information on the (John B. Armitage farm)

John appears in the 1867 and 1874 Millers Corner directories but not in the 1859 directory.

He was married to Mary P. REYNOLDS (daughter of Clark Rogers REYNOLDS and Almira PERSONS) They may have been married in 1865, but this is a very questionable date, where they were married is also unknown. Mary P. REYNOLDS was born on 15 Nov 1833 in Sheldon, near Attica NY on a farm, Wyoming Co. NY. She died on 7 Mar 1903 in Seneca Falls, Seneca County, NY.⁽⁷⁾ She was buried on 10 Mar 1903 in Millers Corners Cemetery, Ionia, Ontario Co., NY. Mary was the oldest of five girls, one little boy Addison died at age 4-1/2.

John B. ARMITAGE and Mary P. REYNOLDS had the following children:

9 ii. Willie ARMITAGE⁽⁸⁾ was born on 10 June 1859. He died on 14 Oct 1859.
10 iii. Goodwin ARMITAGE was born on 5 Oct 1860. He died in Newark, NJ. No children, deemed missing or dead in 1899 probate court for his uncle James M. Armitage. Named for Rev. William H. Goodwin who baptized him.
11 iv. Stella ARMITAGE was born on 29 Dec 1862 in Seneca Co. NY. She died on 18 Oct 1925 in Washington, D.C.. Stella never married, she died of diabetes at age 63. Stella cared for her uncle James M. Armitage at his home, 108 State St. Seneca Falls, NY until his death. In his will Stella received the house and it's contents as well as 40 shares of railroad stock. She was buried on 21 Oct 1925 in Ionia Cemetery near Methodist church. She later lived with widowed mother Mary P. in Ionia, Ontario Co. NY. 1894-1895 Seneca Falls BD, 108 State St., living with uncle.
