Jacob Hagler was born about 1765, and was probably the son of Boston Hagler, who apparently resided in Anson County, North Carolina at that time. Jacob married sometime in the mid 1780s, and by 1790 was living next to his father in Lancaster County, South Carolina, where he raised his family. By 1820, Jacob had moved his family to Walton County, Georgia, and in 1824 bought land in Henry Co., Ga., where his married son Abraham also moved by 1827. In early 1831 Jacob's land was seized by the Henry County sheriff, and the following year he won land in the Georgia Gold Lottery while living in Troup County (probably with son Abraham). The fate of Jacob and his wife after that time is unknown.
