Abraham, or "Abram," Hagler was born about 1794 in Lancaster County, South Carolina, almost certainly the son of Jacob Hagler. During the War of 1812, Abram served in Captain John Welch's company in the South Carolina militia, enlisting in Lancaster and mustering out in Charleston. Shortly after his military service, Abraham married Mary Baker on December 24, 1814 in Lancaster Co., where their only 2 children, both daughters, were born. Following his father's relocation to Walton County, Georgia by 1820, and to Henry Co. by 1824, Abraham apparently moved his own family to Henry County before winning land in Troup County, Georgia in the 1827 Land Lottery, to which he subsequently moved. Abraham's father Jacob apparently resided briefly with Abraham in Troup Co. after his land was seized in Henry Co. in 1831, though it is unclear whether Jacob and his wife died there in the 1830s or moved elsewhere.
In 1833, Abraham was among the founding trustees of Concord Primitive Baptist Church in Troup Co. After the marriage of both daughters (the youngest to the son of Concord's first minister John M. Duke), Abraham later moved to nearby Heard County, where he died on May 7, 1868. Abram's widow Mary applied for a pension in 1871 shortly before her death, although the application was rejected due to a lack of muster rolls for the company. Their graves have not been located.
