Hardy H. Holden was born in 1820, the son of Thomas Holden. On December 23, 1838, Hardy married Elizabeth King (born 1821), the daughter of William D. King and Mary Ann Bryant, in Pike County. Hardy Holden died before the census of 1840, either during Elizabeth's first pregnancy, or immediately after the birth of their first son William T. Holden that same year.
Elizabeth subsequently remarried on March 23, 1843 in Pike County, marrying John J. Bagwell, the son of Littlebury Bagwell and Winnie Castleberry. Elizabeth and John Bagwell apparently had no children of their own, raising Elizabeth's son William Holden and several Morris children in Pike and subsequently Spalding County. Elizabeth survived her second husband, later applying in 1892 for a pension based on John Bagwell's service during the Florida Seminole War. Her date of death is unknown.
