Put On The Whole Armour Of GodIn Ephesians 6:11-17 we are told to put on the whole armour of God. This will protect us against the evils of the Internet, particularly against pornography and unclean thoughts and actions, if we understand and apply the literal and symbolic instructions of the whole armour of God. LOINS GIRT ABOUT WITH TRUTH: The loins are the part of the body containing the power to procreate. Appropriate clothing must cover and protect it. Jesus is the truth and He leads us to do good. If we respond to His Spirit we can control our body, thought, and actions. BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS: The breastplate covers the heart. A protected heart is a pure heart, i.e. a contrite, humble, teachable, obedient spirit. Righteousness is the quality and type of living that results from obedience to gospel laws and ordinances. FEET SHOD WITH THE PREPARATION OF THE GOSPEL OF PEACE: Shoes protect our feet from injury, and make us comfortable even when standing on sharp stones. This image tells us that we can feel peace in the midst of affliction. Preparation to feel calm in anxious moments of temptation comes from guidance of trustworthy individuals who have a knowledge of the comfort the Savior can provide. SHIELD OF FAITH: We have faith when our actions and thoughts show trust, confidence, and obedience to Heavenly Father. Faith will lead us to do what is right rather than experiement with temptation. Faith becomes a shield against Satan. HELMET OF SALVATION: To take the helmet of salvation, we claim our right to the gift of the Atonement. "At-one-ment" with God requires obedience to gospel principles, honoring the priesthood, and receiving temple covenants. SWORD OF THE SPIRIT: It is a two-edged sword. We feel the Lord's spirit through the Holy Ghost. The wicked continue indulging in temptations and will feel the Lord's sword on Judgment Day. Ultimately the principle that guards against the evils of immorality is stated in D&C 121: "Let virtue garnish thy thoughts unceasingly." |
