As the setting for Lucy Maud Montgomery's novels, the Island plays a large role in her stories of turn-of-the-century rural life. Its pastoral beauty and the fascinating local characters are important elements of stories like "Anne of Green Gables" or "Emily of New Moon". Visitors who come to see "where Anne grew up" are not disappointed; many of the farmsteads and villages have changed little, and the local folk you may meet at an auction or a lobster supper could have walked straight out of a Montgomery story.
Visitors to the Island can take "Anne Tours", see Anne of Green Gables, The Musical and visit the sets of the new Emily Of New Moon TV show.
