Nestled in Edmonton's picturesque river valley, just ten minutes from the downtown core and from West Edmonton Mall. Easy access is provided by a major freeway system connecting Fort Edmonton Park to major arteries in the city.
The Park is a historical settlement, sitting on 158 acres of parkland. It first opened its doors in May of 1974, and today Fort Edmonton Park has grown to become host to more than 60 period buildings set in four distinct eras of Edmonton's history - 1846, the fur trading post, 1885, showing Edmonton as it would have been during the Klondike goldrush, 1905, Edmonton as the bustling capital city and 1920, Edmonton after World War 1.
The historical interpreters staffing the site are dressed in period costume and help bring the Park to life in showing the lifestyles of each era. The average yearly attendance is approximately 210,000, although the Park's attendance continues to grow each year. Over 100 staff are employed each season, in addition, more than 450 volunteers contribute over 19,000 hours of their time annually.
