We present to you some very

CLOSE FRIENDS

We have many dear friends,

but can only feature just a few.

Birdie and Weldon Ernst have been close friends for over thirty years. When Sister Marlene taught in Biehle, Missouri, they welcomed not only her, but Sister Darlene as well, into their family. We also spent a lot of time sharing our musical talent with their family. Besides our wonderful friendship, it was there that the fishing bug took hold. We spent many an hour along their ponds and lakes trying to catch the "big one", but what we caught the most was their wonderful hospitality and Birdie's great down-home cooking. To this day, going there is like going home.(Since this page was made, our dear friend, Weldon, has gone Home to God.)

Our Friendship with Millie Schobert and Millicent Kalil began when we ministered in Willow Springs, Missouri. From day one, they befriended us. We had many a great time at their lovely place on Pine Creek. Not only they, but also their wonderful Golden Retrievers give us a warm welcome each time we visit. Though we live at a distance, we keep in touch via e-mail. We visit them each year, when we pass by their place on our way to the Abbey, in the heart of the Ozarks. We hold many precious memories of Millie's dear mother, Florence, who now shares the blessings of Heaven. On Dec. 1, 2002, we were very saddened at the death of Millie.

Ernst was born and raised in Iceland. His medical career, as plastic surgeon, brought him to Springfield, Missouri. Susie is a native of Springfield, Missouri. She is a homemaker. Both are very active in their Episcopal Church. For several years now, we have managed to be at Assumption Abbey at the same time of the year. It is always great to see and visit with Susie and Ernst.

When Pat and Betty Garland moved to Tennessee, we made our acquaintance and have become very close friends. Pat is from New York, but has his roots in Ireland where his Dad was born. This is reflected in the Irish memorabilia found in the Garland's home. Betty is from Kentucky. She is an excellent homemaker and a very talented lady. Her beautifully decorated cakes always spark any party or special event. We appreciate how Pat and Betty include us as part of their family. Through their genuine hospitality, we share a lot of happy times together. Pat and Betty now live in Florida since December of 2002. The impact they have made on our lives is certainly a Treasured Memory!

Harper and Pearl Cole are two very special people. Pearl was born and raised in Coeur d' Alene, Idaho. She has had prose and poetry published and is quite an artist. Pearl's first love is family. Harper was born in Pasadena, CA. He has spent 52 years as Pastor and Minister of Christian Education. They have been married 63 years.

Harper and Pear now live in Hesston, KS. We deeply appreciate having Harper and Pearl in our circle of close friends! Do look for Pearl's poems inThe Nun's Poetry Corner
