This page is dedicate to the most wonderful person and mother in the world. This person, my mother, who has always been there for me, has always supported me in my decisions and given me the courage to spread my wings and to fly on my own.

You know, it doesn't matter how far or close to my mother I am for she is in my heart. I only have to close my eyes and I can see her there before me. She stands tall, slim and elegant. Her shoulder length hair a light brown with streaks of blond, curves softly about her face. Her eyes are dark brown with specks of gold that sparkle with love and laughter, but can also pierce your heart when you have not listened and gotten into trouble. Her heart shaped mouth that always seems to smile and laughter which comes quickly. The laughter sounds like music and warms your heart and soul causing you to laugh along with her. Her hands soft and smooth, comforting as she gently brushed the hair from my face when I was ill. But, the most treasured possession is her heart, which is filled with love and caring. Although she is very independent, her compassion, understanding and forgiveness is what I always see.
Mom, I can still see you when it was time for bed. After I had given everyone a hug and kiss it was upstairs to bed. You knelt beside my bed with me as I said my prayers ensuring they were said right. I can still hear you and it makes me laugh when you'd say "alright, you have been blessing people for the last ten minutes, now just say God Bless everyone". You knew it was just a tactic for putting off bedtime and played the game for a bit. You gently helped me into bed, drew the covers up around me tucking them in, kissed my forehead and sat gently upon the bed. I can still see and hear you reading me a story before I fell asleep, or singing a song and sometimes both. Always there was a small light left on as you quietly slipped out of my room, thinking me sound asleep. It is only now, I realise just how special that time was for the both of us.
You ensured that I was always involved in activities, and took an active interest in them. From the age of three you enrolled me in ballet lessons, swimming lessons and skiing lessons. You always came to my activities and did your best to encourage me. Many times you would practice with me, making me strive to do my best always and to reach for the top. I can remember at times wanting to quit, because I didn't want to bother with the practice required. To you that was always unthinkable, you taught us once we had started something we had to follow it through to the end. How patient you were when I had my little temper tantrums because of this, and still you would make me continue. Today I am grateful for the lesson of never giving up but to always go forward even if I did resent it at the time.
You always had time for me, you attended all my activities and recitals, never missing one. I can still see you as you sat there working earnestly on my various costumes for ballet and skating, sewing on beads and sequins, and the patience, love and time which went into these costumes. All these things which I just took for granted, but no longer.
Of course as I grew older, more activities followed, including tennis and horseback riding to name a few. You also ensured I was enrolled in various courses which would be to my benefit. Again some of these courses were not what I wanted. I did rebel. Yet, you would not back down, and told me they were essential, and I had no choice but to attend. Classes on etiquette and self improvement, which to me were useless but of importance to you. Yet, you enrolled me in modelling classes, where I learned the art of applying makeup, how to walk properly and generally how to have confidence when facing the public. These courses I enjoyed, and I can still remember the laughter we shared as you would practice walking, turning and other moves involved in modelling. These are all memories which I cherish and that we still laugh about.
My childhood was very happy for the most part. Of course there were ups and downs which is normal in any ones life. But I knew you were always there for me, Mom. I came to know that when you said something, it was the truth. If something was promised, that promise was always kept. I also knew that no matter what kind of problems or trouble I might have gotten into, you would be there for me. You would stand behind, not even a thought of deserting me or leaving me to my own devices. Still, you taught me a valuable lesson by making me realise that I was responsible for my actions and I was the one who would bear the consequences. Even though you had the patience of a Saint, doesn't mean to say you never got upset or angry with me. Of course, you did, for after all you are human.
You
did not believe in hitting a child. But, when your voice changed, I knew
I had gone too far. Being a normal child though, I did not
always back down. At times I would push just to see how much I could get
away with. Consequently, I was sent to my room to reflect upon
my actions. You told me not to return until I was ready to apologise and
accept what I had done. I would angrily stomp off to my room
saying
"I hate you! You're mean!
You don't love me! I'm never going to speak to you for the rest of my
life."
Your
reply was always the same. "I know
you're angry and don't mean what you say and I still love you."
When I think of those words now, how mean and hateful they were, how much
I must have hurt you in saying them. Still, you always forgave me,
you never held those words against me, but always loved me no matter
what.
Mom, all I can say is even though we had our differences while I growing and maturing, you are still the world's greatest Mom and I wouldn't trade you for anything. I want to thank you for all your patience, your love, your understanding and the many valuable lessons which I learnt from you.
You taught me how to become independent and rely on myself, to be responsible for my actions and to always do the best I can and then to push myself a little more.
Through your actions, I leaned how to have respect for all people, to trust in others, to always lend a helping hand when the need arose, to give people the benefit of the doubt and to always be loyal to my friends.
You taught me to show respect for my elders even if they were not deserving, they still had the right for respect due to their age.
I would say the one thing you taught me that means the most is how to love others and accept them for what or who they are and not to dwell on their faults as we all have them.
I also want to thank you for having the courage to allow me to spread my wings, to learn from my own experiences, even though many a times you knew I would get hurt and would have loved to spare me that.
In
closing I just want to say how much I respect you for the person and Mother
you are. You are respected and loved not only by your own family,
but by the many people whom you know. Your generosity, kindness,
respect and love for others is something I will always strive for in my
life. Mom, if I only manage to become half the person you are, I
know that in its self would be a great accomplishment and something to
look forward to.
I
only hope and pray that I can show my children, your grandchildren the
valuable lessons you've taught me about life. The one thing,
I promise you is to raise my children as you have raised me. In my eyes
you are the perfect example of the greatest and most wonderful Mother in
this world.
Mom, I love you. You are always in my heart and
my love for you grows deeper with each passing day. Thanks
for being my Mom.
Your
loving daughter
