The Louveau history has been the most difficult thus far to procure information on. I will update this page as I uncover more information, but it has been slow in coming! The farthest back I have is Metilda Camilles father, Auguste (Augustin) Louveau. He married Metildas mother, Irene Parent, sometime before Metildas birth in 1851 or 1857. I have not been able to find a record of their marriage. The information I obtained from the family indicates that Auguste was born about 1810 in France, however, I do not know how accurate this information is. Certainly, I have been able to find little or no trace of either Auguste or his family in the Baton Rouge records. The few facts I do have are as follows: Auguste married Irene Parent about 1850?, place unknown. No record of their marriage has been found in the Baton Rouge Sacremental records, although Irene and her families information is located there. In 1882, the St. Josephs Catholic Church family register shows Irene Parent (Parant), (Widow Louvea?), age 57 years living in Coteau Brown, Livingston Parish, LA. Irene is living with John Lambert, 23 years, and Celestine Louveau, age 23 1/2 years. In the BRSR (Baton Rouge Sacremental Records), there is a record of Celestine Loveau, parents Augustin Louveau and Irene Parent, marrying a Jean B. Lambert on 5 June, 1882. According to the date given on the St. Joseph Church record, Celestine would have been born about 1858. Metilda Camille Louveau, was born either July, 1851 or July, 1857. Her birth is not recorded in the Baton Rouge Sacremental records. If in fact, Melilda was born in 1851 as the family records indicate, she would have only been 11 at the time of her marrige in 1867. In the 1882 St. Joseph Church Records, Camile is listed with her husband, Mathieu. The listing is as follows: Mathlisen Morin, age 40 years, Camile Loveau, 31 years, Amedee Laurent, 13 years, Marie Julia, 10 years, Olympe Philomine, 8 years, Armand Pierre, 5 1/2 years, Marurice Augustine, 3 years, Michel, 1 year. This would put Meltildas birth year at 1858. Information from the family indicates that Mathieu and Metilda were married in 1867, this means that Metilda would have been 16 at the time of her marriage. No marriage record can be found in the BRSR. Their first child, Laurent Amedee, was born in 1869. So the date of marriage as 1867, appears to be correct. On the 1900 Census of Ascension Parish, Mathew (sic) is listed with his wife Amille (sic). Mathieu is listed as 57 years old, being born in 1843. Camille is listed as being 48 years old, being born in July, of what looks like either 1851 or 1857. The record is very unclear. However, if she was 48 years old at the time of the census, which was taken one month before her birthday, that would put her birthdate at 1851. However, as previously mentioned, this would have made her only 11 at the time of her marriage to Mathieu. Perhaps, as the record is very unclear, I have misread the record and it should in fact state that she was 43 years old. The census record also states that Mathieu and Camile have been married for 33 years, which would verify the marriage date of 1867. The record indicates that they had 13 children, 9 of whom were still living. We have thus far located birth records for 11 of these 13 children. At the time of the census, the children listed were as follows: Michel, age 18 Charles, age 15 Mathieu, age 13 Joseph, age 10 George, age 8 Paul, age 4 These are the 6 youngest of the children. Of the eldest 5, four were already married, Laurent Amedee, Marie Julia, Pierre Armand, and Olympe Philomene. Only Maruice Augustine has not been further accounted for. He could have died prior to the census being taken, but we have no record of his death or burial either. That would leave 2 more children unaccounted for and yet unamed. As children were only recorded in the BRSR at the time of their Christening, this could mean that these children died before their formal christening at the church. Mathieu is listed in the 1900 census as being a farmer. He owned his own land free and clear. He can be found on farm schedule #90. I have yet to locate the exact location of his farm, although family history indicates that it was located near Acy, Ascension Parish, LA. Metilda Camile died in 1901 in French Settlement and is buried in the French Settlement Community Cemetery. Mathieu is buried in Holy Rosary Cemetery in St. Amant, Ascension Parish.
