Mathieu Morin

Mathieu was born on 20 Feb, 1843 and christened on 6 May, 1844 in Ascension Parish.  He married Marie (Mary or Marie) Camille Louveau sometime around 1867.  Michel died 22 Nov, 1916 and is buried in the Holy Rosary Cemetery in St. Amant, Ascension Parish, LA.  Marie was born to Auguste Louveau in July of 1851 (this date was also given to me as possibly being 1857, which I determined to be too late as she would have only been 12 when her first child was born!)  Her parents were Auguste Louveau and Irene Parent.  She died in 1901 in French Settlement and is buried in the French Settlement Community Cemetery.  She is listed on the cemetery listing as Mrs. Mathew Morin, born 1852, died 1901.

Mathieu and Marie had 12 children.  They are:

• Laurent Amedee Moran, born 28 Dec, 1869 and christened on 29 Dec, 1869 at St. Theresa Chruch, Gonzales, Ascension Parish, LA.  She married Marie Egerie Duvernay on 22 Jan, 1895 at St. Joseph Church, French Settlement, Livingston Parish, LA.  She died 25 Apr, 1897 and is buried at St. Joseph Church Cemetery, French Settlement, Livingston Parish, LA.
• Marie Julia Moran, born 27 Mar, 1872 and christened 18 Oct, 1872 at St. Joseph Church, French Settlement, Livingston Parish, LA.  She married Joseph Xavier Templet on 8 Jan, 1892 at St. Theresa Church, Gonzales, Ascension Parish, LA.  She died on 25 Jan, 1946 and is buried in the Holy Rosary Cemetery in St. Amant, Ascension Parish, LA.
• Pierre Armand Moran, born 17 Jun, 1880 and christened 27 Apr, 1880? at St. Theresa Church, Gonzales, Ascension Parish, LA.  He married Eve Margaret �Tee Neive� Templet on 6 Feb, 1899 in Ascension Parish.  He died 2 Jun, 1947 and is buried at Holy Rosary Cemetery in St. Amant, Ascension Parish, LA.
• Olympe Philomene Moran, born 27 Feb, 1875 at Coteau Brown, Ascension Parish and was christened at Cile Point, Ascension Parish on 2 Apr, 1875.  She married Leo Babin on 28 Jan, 1896 in Ascension Parish.  Leo�s father was Pierre Drauzin Babin.  Olympe died 20 Nov, 1913 and is buried in the Holy Rosary Cemetery in St. Amant, Ascension Parish, LA.
• Maurice Augustine Moran, born 6 Nov, 1879 and christened at St. Joseph Church in French Settlement, Livinston Parish, LA.  No other information has been obtained for Maurice.
• Michael Celicoure Moran, born 9 Dec, 1881 in Ascension Parish.  He married Angele Eugenie Villeneuve on 7 Dec, 1903 at Sacred Heart Church at New River, Ascension Parish, LA.  He died on 16 Jul, 1942 and is bured in the Holy Rosary Cemetery in St. Amant, Ascension Parish, LA.
• Ovide Charles Moran, born 21 Aug, 1884 in Ascension Parish.  He married Marie Augustine Villeneuve on 4 Dec, 1905.  Ovide died 2 Apr, 1952 and is buried at the Holy Rosary Cemetery in St. Amant, Ascension Parish, LA.
• Earnest Moran, born 27 Nov, 1886.  He married Olivia Poirrier on 23 Jan, 1917.  He died on 19 Aug, 1963 and is buried in the Holy Rosary Cemetery in St. Amant, Ascension Parish, LA.
• Albert Joseph Moran, born 2 Jul, 1889 in Acy?, Ascension Parish, LA.  He married Ursule Bourgeois on 23 Sept, 1915.  He died on 4 Feb, 1948 and is buried in the Holy Rosary Cemetery in St. Amant, Ascension Parish, LA.
• George Leonce Moran, born 6 Nov, 1891.  He died on 11 Aug, 1961 and is buried in the Holy Rosary Cemetery in St. Amant, Ascension Parish, LA.  No other information is available for George.
• Leo Paul Moran, born 16 Jan, 1896.  He married Bessie Hanna.  He died on 22 Jun, 1963 and is buried in the Holy Rosary Cemetery in St. Amant, Ascension Parish, LA.
• Charles Louis Moran.  No information is available for Charles.

It is interesting to note that sometime in this generation, the spelling of the surname evolved to Moran.  However, Mathieu�s headstone reads �Maurin� as did his fathers. 

Little is known about Marie Camille Louveau.  I have been unable to locate any records concerning her father, and very little on her mother.  I hope to make some headway on this line in the near future....

Mathieu was a farmer as near as I can tell, and may have lived near the Acy area, which is located about 2 1/2 miles SE of St. Amant.  I hope to be able to locate some land records in the near future to verify this.

Mathieu and Metilda are listed on the 1882 St. Joseph Church census from Livingston Parish, LA.  The information given is as follows:  Mathlisen Morin, age 40 years and Camile Louveau, age 31 years.  Children Amedee Laurent, 13 years, Marie Julia, 10 years, Olympe Philomine, 8 years, Armand Pierre, 5 1/2 years, Maurice Augustine, 3 years, Michel, 1 year.

On the 1900 Ascension Parish Census, Matthew is listed as living in Ward 7, House #105.  His age is listed as 57 years, and his date of birth as 1843.  Camilia was listed as 48 years old, and her date of birth is listed as July, 1851.  Both were born in Louisiana, as were their parents.  The children were listed as Michel, age 18, Charles, age 15, Mathew, age 13, Joseph, age 10, George, age 8, and Paul, age 4.  From this record, it shows that 13 children were born to this marriage, and only 9 were surviving at the time of the census.  I have no record of any children who died before 1900.  Mathieu is listed as being a farmer.

Mathieu�s son Armand is also listed on this census as living in house #106 with his wife, Eva, and his son, Octave.
