June 15, 1921. I have been sick and was at the house, and this evening I went to Troutman to have my car worked on, and was up there all evening. James plowed cotton all day.
Jun 16. I plowed up the turnip patch--the old one, and then plowed in the newground corn the rest of the day. James finished the cotton this morning, and then helped me in the corn.
Jun 17. Cut wheat till noon. Will and James cut around, and I went and got the reaper and then they shocked and I cut with the reaper. After noon James and I plowed corn and Will Mincey plowed in his newground.
Jun 18. We hauled up wheat. Will Mincey and James helped me, and after noon I went and done some summons, and then went on to town and taken them in. Will Mincey was with me.
Jun 19. Sunday. Stayed at home this morning and went to church this evening.
Jun 20. Hoed corn and cotton all day. The girls helped me all day, and James till noon, and after noon James plowed corn.
Jun 21. I worked in the garden and watermelon patch, and this evening went to Statesville. James plowed corn all day.
Jun 22. I plowed all day and James plowed too. We plowed in the corn.
Jun 23. Worked around the house this morning. This evening I taken Grace and the baby up to Mr. Troutman's, and then taken Nellie Blanch and Hazel up to Cartwright's in North Iredell. James plowed corn till noon, and went back after noon, and it rained.
Jun 24. I went over on the river looking for a still woodsides, and Allison come down, and this evening I hauled up a little wheat, and late this evening I went over to Lawrence Hicks and we measured the road. We want the mail route changed, and we was getting the difference.
Jun 25. I went up to Troutman this morning, and after noon I went back to Troutman.
Jun 26. Sunday. Went to Sunday School this morning, and this afternoon I went up to Mr. Troutman's after Grace and the boys.
Jun 27. Plowed in peas till noon. Will Mincey helped me. This evening I went after Nellie Blanch and Hazel. They come to town.
Jun 28. Plowed cotton a part of the day. James helped me and plowed some this morning and two hours this evening.
Jun 29. I helped F. O. Hinson thrash wheat and then I went to Mooresville in the car and got two bags of 16% acid. James plowed cotton till noon, and after noon we planted some peas.
Jun 30. We worked around the house all day, fixed for the thrashers, hauled up some rye, and planted some potatoes. Will and James both helped me.
July 1, 1921.. Thrashed wheat. Got here about 11 o'clock. I made 56 1/2 bushels of wheat, 23 of oats, 13 rye. Went and helped Arthur Simms and Will and James helped Conway. I went up to Troutman for C. A. Mayhew.
Jul 2. I helped Mother thrash wheat this morning, and the rest of the day I have been around home, only I went to Troutman and got some ice and we made some ice cream.
Jul 3. Sunday. We all went to preaching and this evening Fay Troutman and family come up and we went up home a little while.
Jul 4. This morning I taken a load of negroes up to Oxford and then I taken my family up to Troutman. Later this evening I went back to Eufola.
Jul 5. I sowed some peas this morning and worked on my car. Taken the front axle off, straightened it and went to Statesville this evening to put in an application for a farm loan account.
Jul 6. I sowed some peas and worked about the house, and this evening I served a claim and delivery for C. A. Mayhew.
Jul 7. I taken Grace and the boy to town. Come back and have been around the house.
Jul 9. I taken a load of slabs to the preacher's. Was around the house and went to Troutman to a ball game.
Jul 10. Sunday. Went to Sunday School and went up to Mr. Troutman's awhile this evening.
Jul 11. Cut logs this morning, and awhile this evening, and some men come to appraise my land, and I was with them the rest of the day. Will Mincey helped me. He hauled logs awhile this evening.
Jul 12. Hauled some logs and got ready to saw some till noon. I cut my hand and we had to stop. I went to the doctor and James plowed cotton.
Jul 13. I haven't done anything much. Helped clean the graveyard, and this evening I went to Mooresville to see about some window sashes and bricks and to see Uncle Davis. James plowed for me this morning and for Will this evening.
Jul 14. This morning I went over to Lydie Ervin's to see him about dressing some lumber, and to Mother's, and this evening I went to Statesville. James helped Will Mincey plow this morning, and this evening he went off.
Jul 15. This morning Will and I fixed up a sand bed and Will hauled sand. I went to preaching, and this evening I went to get my hand dressed and on to Ostwalt to see a .....................and on home.
Jul 16. We went to Statesville after some brick. I went in the car and got everything ready. Will come in the wagon, and it was 2 o'clock when Will got back, and after noon we went up to Troutman and got some ice and we made ice cream.
Jul 17. Sunday. We all went to preaching this morning. Come home for dinner and then went back to church this evening.
Jul 18. I went to preaching this morning at Rocky Mount. Nellie Blanch and Hazel went with me, and they joined the church, and this evening we went up to Cousin John Collins' to a reunion.
Jul 19. We plowed in some peas we had sowed, and then I went to preaching, and James and Will cut logs the rest of the day. I helped them this evening.
Jul 20. This morning I went to Troutman to get my hand dressed, and to serve some summons, and after noon I went to J. L. Ervin's sale, and late this evening I went to East Monbo and served a summons and a warrant on Charlie Robbinette for running a car without a license.
Jul 21. We all went to the State Farm picnic and spent the day. Will Mincey went along.
Jul 22. This morning we all went to preaching and this evening Will Mincey and I hauled logs.
Jul 23. This morning I went by East Monbo and taken some tomatoes and corn, and went on to Statesville. Got back home till noon, and this evening we went up to Mr. Troutman's.
Jul 24. Sunday. We went to Sunday School and this evening we all went to see ..........Ervin and Ellen was at Uncle Jim Ervin's and come back by Fed Nesbitt's and stayed awhile.
Jul 25. Started to work on my new house. Harry Sherrill is helping me. We built pillars today and Will and James hauled lumber till noon, and after noon Will went to town after a load of brick, and James helped us.
Jul 26. Worked on the house all day. Harry Sherrill helped me. James plowed cotton, and Will Mincey plowed in his cotton.
Jul 27. Worked on the house all day. Harry Sherrill helped me. James plowed cotton and peas, and after noon he made mortar and helped me with the house.
Jul 28. This morning we worked around the house, planted some corn, and then James plowed cotton the rest of the day. Will plowed potatoes till late, and I went to Mooresville and was out at the picnic awhile.
Jul 29. Sawed at the mill all day. W. L. Bass fired, Will Mincey turned logs, and James Summers offbarrowed, and Harry Sherrill and Homer worked on the house.
Jul 30. Sawed till about 3 o'clock. James Summers, Will Mincey helped me, and W. F. Bass till noon and Will Mincey worked all day. I went to town and taken the family with me late this evening.
Jul 31. Sunday. We all went to preaching and was there most all day. Mr. and Mrs. Cartwright come down and the girls went home with them.
August 1, 1921. Worked on the house all day. Harry Sherrill helped m,e. Will Mincey and James hauled out some lumber this morning, and this evening they helped at the house. I went to Troutman, had some wheat ground for Will Mincey and some hog feed.
Aug 2. Worked on the house. Harry Sherrill, Will Mincey, and James helped me.
Aug 3. Worked on the house till noon, and this evening I went to town and to court, and the boys worked on the house all day. Harry Sherrill, James Summer, and Will Mincey worked on the house.
Aug 4. This morning James and I cut and hauled some logs and after noon we sawed the logs at the mill. Will Mincey helped us. Harry Sherrill worked on the house all day. The rest of us helped him the rest of the day.
Aug 5. Worked on the house all day, only I was with J. A. Steel awhile this evening. We looked for a location for a schoolhouse for the negroes. Harry Sherrill, Will Mincey, and James Summers worked on the house all day.
Aug 6. Worked on the house till noon. Will Mincey and Harry Sherrill helped me till noon, and this evening I went to town to mill. Homer went with me to town.
Aug 7. Sunday. We went to Lloyd Troutman's at Kannapolis to a Troutman birthday and got there about 11:30 o'clock. It was about night when we got home.
Aug 8. I went this morning to C. L. Allison's and served a claim and delivery and then went by Mr. Troutman's and taken Grace and the boy to spent the day. I went on to court and was there the rest of the day. Came by after Grace and the boy. Will Mincey and James Summers hauled shingles from town. Got 25,000.
Aug 9. This morning I went over to Lydie's and got some lumber I had over there and taken it to Troutman to get it dressed, and after noon taken a cow to Arthur Simms' male, and then got the rest of the lumber and taken it to Troutman. Will Mincey went to town after a load of brick. James and Harry Sherrill worked on the house.
Aug 10. I hauled lumber to the planer's in Troutman and Will Mincey hauled brick from town. James and Harry Sherrill worked on the house.
Aug 11. Worked on the house all day. Jim Clontz and I covered the porches, and Harry and Roy Mills put up boxing all day. Will Mincey hauled brick, and James hauled a load of lumber from the planer's this morning and helped around the house this evening.
Aug 12. I sawed at the mill till about 2 o'clock and then helped make window frames awhile, and then went to Troutman to get a piece of lumber dressed for the double windows. Will Mincey hauled brick. James worked at the mill. Harry Sherrill, Roy Mills, and Jim Clontz worked at the house.
Aug 13. Worked on the house till noon. Harry Sherrill, Jim Clontz, and Roy Sherrill helped me. Will Mincey hauled a load of brick, and we all did not work this evening. I went to town. Grace went with me.
Aug 14. Sunday. Went over to Mother's and spent the day as G. C. Putnam was there awhile.
Aug 15. , Worked on the house all day. Harry Sherrill, Roy Mill, Will Mincey, and James Summers helped me.
Aug 16. This morning it is raining and I went to town, and this evening I worked on the house. Nobody worked for me today.
Aug 17. Worked on the house all day., Harry Sherrill and Jim Clontz, and Will Mincey worked all day, and Roy Mills worked this evening.
Aug 18. Worked on the house all day. Harry Sherrill worked till noon, and this evening he went to Norfolk, Va. Roy Mills, Jim Clontz, and Will Mincey worked all day.
Aug 19. Went to the Reunion at the Troutman Graveyard Schoolhouse and was there all day. Roy Mills and Jim Clontz worked on the house all day. Will Mincey hauled bricks. James helped on the house.
Aug 20. I was about the house till noon, and this evening I went to Troutman and made some hangers for a stove flue, and to mill and on to town to get the children as they come home from Grandmother Cartwright's.
Aug 21. Sunday. Stayed at home till noon. After noon we all went to preaching at Rocky Mt.
Aug 22. Worked on the house. Jim Clontz and I weatherboarded, and Will Mincey and James Summers made mortar and carried brick, and Luther B....was building my chimney.
Aug 23. Worked on the house all day. Harry Sherrill and I weatherboarded. Will and James worked awhile, and it rained and we stopped chimney work as it rained.
Aug 24. I went to town and got a barrel of lime and two bags of cement and worked on the house this evening., Will Mincey hauled a load of brick and made 6 hours.
Aug 25. Worked on the house, only I went to Mooresville at noon to get a piece for the stove flue. Harry Sherrill and Jim Clontz worked on the house, and Will Mincey and Will Summers made mortar for the chimney.
Aug 26. Worked on the house all day. Harry Sherrill worked ten hours. Roy Parker 8 hours and Roy Mills 5 hours and Will Mincey and Will Summers all day. They made mortar.
Aug 27. Worked on the house all day. Harry Sherrill, Roy Parker worked all day. Roy Mills made 7 hours, Will Mincey went to town for a load of brick.
Aug 28. Sunday. We was at home till this evening, only I went up to Mr. T. A. Jones and helped him lay some plank over his house as it was raining some this morning, and this evening we all went up to Mr. Troutman's.
Aug 29. Worked on the house only I went to Troutman and got some nails. Harry Sherrill come in at 8:30 o'clock. Roy all day and Will Mincey and James Summers worked all day. Roy Mills worked this evening.
Aug 30. Pulled fodder all day. James Summers helped me. Harry Sherrill worked on the house.
Aug 31. I was sick today. I helped Harry build the stove flue this morning, but was in bed all evening. Harry worked on the house all day, and I give him a check for $50. James and Rob Vanderburg pulled fodder all day.
September 1, 1921. I have been sick all day. Mr. Blaine came and finished the chimney. This morning and James Summers and Rob Vanderburg made mortar. They pulled fodder this evening. I went to look for a still this evening and then went on to town and got some ridge rows for the house.
Sep 2. Pulled fodder all day. The girls and James helped me.
Sep 3. This morning I was around home till about 10 o'clock when we all went up to John Troutman's to a birthday dinner. James cut and hauled up some corn and went off at noon.
Sep 4. Sunday. Went up to Mr. Troutman's and was there all day, only we went to East Monbo to a baptizing. There was 22.
Sep 5. Pulled fodder. James Summers and Rob Vanderburg helped me.
Sep 6. Sawed at the mill till noon, edging up some lumber. Will Mincey, James Summers, and Rob Vanderburg helped me till noon, and after noon I hauled lumber to the Blaine's and Will Mincey pulled fodder for Lydie Ervin.
Sep 7. I hauled lumber to the planer's till noon, and this evening I worked on the house. Will Mincey helped me a while this evening, and he helped Lydie Ervin this morning.
Sep 8. I worked on the house all day. Roy Parker helped from 9 o'clock to 6 this evening. We all went to Troutman to preaching tonight.
Sep 9. Worked on the house till it rained. Will Mincey helped me till noon.
Sep 10. This morning I went over to Lydie Ervin's and phoned for James to bring the team, and he and I brought a load of flooring home, and this evening I went over to Ostwalt and got Grace a pair of shoes, and we went on to town.
Sep 11. Sunday. Went to Sunday School this morning and was about home till we went to preaching at Troutman tonight.
Sep 12. I went to Morganton to take a patient up there--W. W. Holland for gambling--and Bert Parker went with me.

Sep 19. I worked on the house all day. Harry Sherrill helped me. James and Will pulled up some weeds off the clover field this morning. This evening James cut up some corn in the newground.
Sep 20. I worked on the house all day. Harry Sherrill and Roy Parker helped me. James cut up corn this morning and after noon James and Will Mincey hauled up tops for me.
Sep 21. I worked on the house all day. Harry Sherrill worked all day. Roy Parker till noon. He went home to put up hay. James and Will Mincey hauled tops for me till 11 o'clock and then went to the Ostwalt place and hauled the rest of the day.
Sep 22. I worked on the house all day. Harry Sherrill worked 6 hours wiring the house.
Sep 23. I worked on the house all day. Harry Sherrill and Roy Parker helped me.
Sep 24. I hauled lumber to the planer's till noon, and after noon I went to town and on to help hunt Bob Benson, a negro who killed Bob Dishman. James worked till noon.
Sep 25. Sunday. I went up around Stoney Point looking for Bob Benson, and he was found at 6 o'clock. Conway went with me and Harry Sherrill and Dick Cavin from Troutman come home about 3 or 4 o'clock.
Sep 26. Worked on the house all day. Harry Sherrill helped me. James Summers hauled lumber to the planer's.
Sep 27. This morning it is raining and rained till about noon, and all night last night. I was at home till noon, and after noon I taken my saw up to Burette Troutman's.
Sep 28. I harrowed some this morning, and commenced plowing and James come about 12 o'clock, and he plowed the rest of the day. I helped Grace about canning some beans Aunt Leitha Troutman brought down here, and then worked on the house some.
Sep 29. I worked on the house till about two o'clock when we went to see the Army Air Artillery Post (?) and on to town to get some nails. Harry Sherrill worked six hours.
Sep 30. I worked on the house all day. Harry Sherrill helped me. James Summers plowed till about 4 o'clock when it rained. Harry was a little late this morning, but we made it up this evening.
October 1, 1921. I went to serve a summons on Lonnie Alley and some witnesses at Troutman, and then went to Jay Brown's farm and arrested Nelson Redman and taken before J. P. Harrill in New Hope Township, and while up there we officers found a still and captured a man and a little baby, and it was after night when I got home. Harry Sherrill worked five and a half hours.
Oct 2. Sunday. We all went to preaching at Rocky Mount, and after noon we went up to Mr. Troutman's and spent a while.
Oct 3. This morning it is raining and rained till up in the day, a hard rain. This evening I went to mill at Mooresville and went to Statesville.
Oct 4. I hauled lumber to the planer's and went to town this evening and got my window and door locks and stuff to hang the doors with.
Oct 5. I worked on the house all day. Harry Sherrill worked 8 1/2 hours.
Oct 6. I worked on the house all day. Harry Sherrill come at 10:30 o'clock 7 1/2 hours. James picked peas, and the children too.
Oct 7. I worked on the house till noon, and this evening I went to town to see about having my windows fixed as Harry made the frames too short. He and Lydie Ervin worked on the house hanging doors.
Oct 8. I worked cutting down the window sashes. Harry Sherrill helped me, and we got done till 20 minutes till 3 o'clock, then I taken Harry home and went up to Mr. Troutman's after my hay. Burette come home with me and spent the night.
Oct 9. Sunday. Stayed at home till after noon and we went up to Mr. Troutman's, Grace's father, to take Burette home.
Oct 10. Worked on the house all day. Harry Sherrill helped me.

T.......and taken him to town to made an affidavit so I could get a loan through the ...Bank.
Oct 16. Sunday. I went to get some money for the benches this morning, and after noon we all went to preaching at Rocky Mount.
Oct 17. This morning I sowed some oats, and then I went to Troutman on some business and on to serve a warrant on Mr. J. C. Sharp and taken him on to town and was about night when I got home.
Oct 18. Pulled corn till noon, and this evening I hauled. James and one of Ben Moore's boys helped me.
Oct 19. I hauled corn all day, and James pulled till noon, and then he helped me haul this evening.
Oct 20. I ask some hands this morning to help me shuck corn and shucked here this evening and got done about 7 o'clock.
Oct 21. I cribbed corn this morning. James helped me and this evening I helped Tom Eller shuck corn.
Oct 22. This morning I l...........Will Mincey's corn, and after noon I went to town. Grace and the baby went along.

Oct 27. I worked on the house all day. James has been around the house all day working, and this evening he helped Stamey Mills shuck corn.
Oct 28. I went over to Jim Honeycutt's to serve a summons and a claim and delivery, but he was not there, and I left a copy with Mrs. Williams, and I have worked on the house the rest of the day. Lydie Ervin helped till 5 o'clock.
Oct 29. I worked on the house all morning and awhile after noon. Lydie Ervin helped me, and this evening about 3 o'clock I went to town to get some varnish and went to mill.
Oct 30. Sunday. We stayed at home till late this evening when we went up to Mr. Troutman's and stayed a while.
Oct 31. I went up to the Schoolhouse and on to Lydie Ervin's and got him to help me, and he and I worked on the house all evening. James worked for Lydie and taken a bale of cotton to the gin for Henry Page.
November 1, 1921. I worked on the porch floors, made some steps.
Nov 2. I went to Mooresville. Went by Troutman. Grace and the boys and Homer and .Lawton Hinson went along, and this evening I taken two bales of cotton to the gin. James helped me.
Nov 3. We moved in our new house today. James helped me and Grace.
Nov 4. This morning I moved the telephone in the new house and done around the house. I went and got the drill and went to Troutman and got six bags o 8-2-2 guano from J. L. Smith. James helped David Overcash shuck corn this evening.
Nov 5. Sowed wheat most all day, 4 1/2 acres and this evening I went to Troutman and got some stuff, oil and other things, and served some summons.
Nov 6. Sunday. We all went up to Mrs. J. M. Cartwright's and spent the day, and it was about night when we got home.
Nov 7. I went to court and was there all day, only I summoned Drew Johnson and ..........Morrison.
Nov 8. I went to court and was there all day. James helped Conway till noon, and this evening he plowed in the newground where the boys drilled oats and didn't get them covered good.
Nov 9. I went to court and was there all day. I summoned some witnesses this morning and a special venire. James cut wood today.
Nov 10. I went to court and was there all day, and the trial of Bob Benson was started for the murder of J. R. Dishman, and I was put in charge of the jury, so I stayed in town.
Nov 11. This morning finds me in town in charge of the jury and I was there all day and all night, but the jury turned in a verdict of murder in the first degree at 9 o'clock.
Nov 12. This morning I am still in town, but come home at, or about, 9 o'clock and got Grace and the children and went back to town, and I made a trip to Mooresville and back to town, and was about the courthouse the rest of the day.
Nov 13. Sunday. We have been at home all day.
Nov 14. I went and summoned some witnesses and served a claim and delivery and on to town and was at court a while this evening.
Nov 15. I went to court and was there all day. James plowed.
Nov 16. I was at court all day. James plowed in the stubble.
Nov 17. I went to court and was there all day. James hauled a load of lumber to town.

Nov 22. James and I hauled up some wood this morning, and after noon .....Tolbert sawed wood all evening for me. Sam Young and James helped me.
Nov 23. Sawed wood till noon, and after noon James plowed on yon side of the creek and I worked in the house.
Nov 24. I plowed a while this morning and then drug the roads and then Furches and Clifton Troutman and families came and spent the day.
Nov 25. I went over to Mother's and got the disk harrow and was ... on it, and then it started to rain, and this evening I went to mill at Mooresville.
Nov 26. I worked on the house till noon, and after noon we all went to Statesville and Grace and the children stayed at Mr. Troutman's tonight, and I come on home.
Nov 27. Sunday. I have been at home till about 12 o'clock when I went up to Mr. Troutman's after Grace and the children.
Nov 28. I went to Mooresville to close my farm loan and got it through. Went on to Statesville, paid all the notes I owed and my hardware bill at F. H. Morgan Co. It was $484.00.
Nov 29. I killed a hog this morning. James Summers helped me, and after noon I went to see about setting my mill on yon side of the creek. I went to Troutman late this evening and paid M. B. Brown for planing some lumber and James went to Troutman after some cotton bales I had up there.
Nov 30. Cut logs all day for a bridge for the county. James Summers helped me.
December 1, 1921. Cut logs all day. James helped me. I went over to Tom Ervin's sawmill to see about getting his cost about hauling the logs out of the woods.
Dec 2. This morning it is raining, and I taken the children to school and am to Lydie Ervin's and got him to help me make the doors for our china closet, and it was 5 o'clock when I got home.
Dec 3. I hauled logs most all day, only I went to town this evening late to take some doors to have some glass put in, and got a heater. James helped me all day.
Dec 4. Sunday. Was at home all day, and it rained till after noon. I did go to the mailbox late this evening.
Dec 5. This morning I went to Troutman to serve some summons and James hauled logs while I was gone, and after I got back we cut and hauled logs the rest of the day.
Dec 6. Hauled logs all day for a bridge near Bert Neil's. James Summers helped me. I sent 30 pieces of 2x4x10 feet and 300 feet of inch plank to the bridge.
Dec 7. This morning we fixed up to saw, but the boiler leaked, and I went to town to get a flue and expander, and Grace went along, and it was almost night when I got back home. James split wood.
Dec . 8. This morning I taken a flue out of my boiler, and Lydie Ervin come and helped me put it in. Then R. W. Graves come and laid off some ditches for me on yon side of the creek. Late this evening James and I filled up the boiler, and I then taken the flue expander to town.
Dec 9. Sawed at the mill most all day. James fired, Tom Sherrill offbarrowed, and Stamey Mills turned logs. I sawed a bridge bill for the county.
Dec 10. Hauled a load of lumber to the road this morning, and James hauled the rest of the day. I helped with my car as Nay Sherrill come to fix it, and I also worked on the house some.
Dec 11. Sunday. Stayed at home till after noon, and then we all went over to Will Simms and stayed a while.
Dec 12. I helped James haul a load of lumber to the bridge near the .....Neil's old place, and then I went to serve some papers and was off all day. James Summers cut with the disk harrow the rest of the day.
Dec 13. This morning I went to Statesville and taken Clyde Mayhew and L. O. Hinson went along as a witness to A. L. Kennedy and we held a trial, and it was about 12 o'clock when we got home. I worked on a china closet the rest of the day.
Dec 14. I worked on the china closet and about the house all day. James cut with the disk harrow and plowed some.
Dec 15. I worked on the house all day. James went to East Monbo this morning to take some lumber to Eller Lee. Taken 25 feet pine.
Dec 16. Went to Statesville today. We went to get some furniture, and we got some. James went and taken a load of stove wood and brought the stuff back.
Dec 17. I worked on the house this morning a while and done about here till noon. Fixed a fire hearth so I could have it cemented. James helped me a while. Then he went off. I paid him up all I owed him, $12.65. I went to Troutman this evening a while.
Dec 18. Sunday. Stayed at home till after noon. We all went to preaching at Rocky Mount. After preaching we come home.
Dec 19. I killed a hog this morning, and this evening I worked on the house. James helped me with the hog, and he went off this evening.
Dec 20. This morning I worked on the house and went over to Lydie Ervin's and to Mother's and late this evening I went to Statesville. It was about night when I got home.
Dec 21. This morning I got Mr. Jones to come down and help me make a cement hearth and plaster a room, and after noon I plowed on yon side of the creek.
Dec 22. I plowed all day on yon side of the creek.
Dec 23. I worked at the house, and this evening I went up to Troutman, and tonight we went to the Schoolhouse to a Christmas Tree.
Dec 24. I went to Statesville. Taken the girls to go up to Mrs. Cartwright's to spend Christmas. I come back home and went up to the wedding. Max Mills and Mable Lipe was married at 2:30 o'clock at Mr. Lipe's. Grace was up there all day.
Dec 25. I went to church this morning. Grace and the boys went with me, and this evening we was at home. Mother and Reuben and wife and G. C. Putnam come over, R. B. Parker, all come over here.
Dec 26. This morning finds us up at Mr. Troutman's, and we come home and done up our work and went over to Mother's and stayed till after noon. George Putnam was over there and Reuben and his wife and Lee Putnam and wife come about noon.
Dec 27. This morning I went over to Mother's as she is sick and had the doctor, and I come back and worked on the house.
Dec 28. James Summers come in this morning. I went with him on yon side of the creek and started him to plowing and come back to the house and worked in the house till noon, and Lloyd Troutman and family come and spent the evening. Lloyd and I went a hunting a while this evening.
Dec 29. I come home from Mother's and done up the work and went back to the Schoolhouse and worked all day helping S. D. Dingler put in a door in the schoolhouse. James plowed all day.
Dec 30. I went to the Schoolhouse and worked till noon, made a pair of steps, done some other work. James plowed on yon side of the creek all day. I went to Troutman. This evening we sold a bale of cotton. Got $19.50 for it and paid W. D. Troutman $82.95 for fertilizer for fall of 1920 and spring of 1921.
Dec 31. This morning I was at home, only I went up to the store and got a plow point, and this evening I went to town and come back to Troutman to a trial. After the trial, believe me, some fighting taken place, just fist to fist. It was about night when I got home.
