Charles Goodman, Jr., Choral Director
The
choral director at the Chilhowie UMC is Charles F. Goodman, Jr. Charles
grew up in Chilhowie and directed the chancel choir part time in the early
1960's when he was a student at Emory and Henry College. When he and his
wife Nancy moved back to Smyth County in 1969, he returned to the church
as choir director. Charles was an English teacher at E.C. Glass, Lynchburg,
from 1963 to 1969. He moved to Marion, Virginia in 1969 as Guidance Director
at Marion Senior High School. In 1994, Charles became Adult Education Marketing
Director for Smyth County Schools, where he directs the Adult Diploma Program,
markets ABE/GED programs to local industries, and serves as Executive Director
of the Smyth County Education Foundation, Inc.

Pat and John Britton, Organists
Pat teaches music in the Smyth County School system and is an accomplished organist and pianist. She accompanies our Chancel Choir during rehearsals each Wednesday night and during our Sunday morning worship service. Every now and then we are priveleged to have her husband, John Britton, play the organ while Pat plays piano during our preludes, offertory, and postlude. John also plays organ at the Episcopal Church in Marion two Sundays each month.
Lisa May, Secretary
Lisa has been our secretary since October 1996. She volunteers her time each week to complete the bulletin and our weekly newsletter, the Chilhowie Chronicles.
Bonnie Vanhoy, Janitor
Bonnie has been our janitor now for several years and is responsible for the cleaning of the church on a weekly basis.
