Why had I come down this old dirt road..I could see the dusk of the evening with it's yellowish gold splendor settling down and soon it would be dark..just to cut off that half hour of travel on the way home..
Here I was on this forbidden road..no one used this road often..the road was dangerously narrow..and winding..going around a curve it was always a narrow escape if someone was coming in the opposite direction.. And too...this was Halloween..
I had to be home for all the cute little goblins and ghouls that would be knocking on my door for their surprise of treats.. My best friend and coworker 'Joy' was to meet me at home..she would worry if I were not there.. Driving at a faster pace now I saw the old house loom up in the distance..
The sky was in it's golden rays sparkling on the old house..and what a site..it still was a spooky place..even from my childhood memories..I always was afraid of that old house..oh how foolish of me..now why would I be thinking of such things..
pressing the gas a little more I rounded a curve..just sliding a little under the loose gravel.. when 'smack' something hit me..I slammed on the brakes sliding to the side..looking in the direction of the accident..there was a man and woman sitting in an old truck..getting out of the car I noticed they were an elderly couple..without introductions of any kind..the older man starts talking .."hay kiddo..are you alright..I sure didn't see you coming yonder round that curve..don't think it did nothn' in damage but sure scared the life out of me and the old woman there"..pointing to his frail wife sitting in the cab of the truck..
Looking over the car I really could not see anything but a little blue paint on the bumper of my car..all it did was bump me too.."I'm fine." looking at the old mans face which gave concern..glad that it did nothing to speak of..especially with being on this old 'devils road'..
I was on my way home from work and thought I would take this short cut trying to make it home before all the children start coming around for their trick or treating..but I'm fine..and see that you two are as well..I will go on my way now..but we both had better be careful around these curves..
Getting into the car..I gave a sigh of relief knowing that no one was hurt. It was getting darker now and the more I looked at the sky and seeing the old house growing closer I almost wanted to turn around and go back the way I had started..now behind schedule I had to go forward..
Changing the music on the radio to something more soothing..I relaxed some now.. Just a couple more curves and I would be past that horrible house and home free..just a short distance.. I sure won't do this again..not alone anyway...and not at this time of night..
Above the music I heard something..that deep screeching unforgiving sound..What the.....something was there..in the road..Ohhhhhhh NOooooooooo!!!!!
