SPIDER LEGEND
A traditional German legend tells us that spiders are the reason we festoon our trees with garland.
One Christmas, while cleaning for the next day's festivities, a woman was sweeping and drove all the spiders in her home away, up into the attic. Later that night the spiders crept back downstairs and saw the beautiful Christmas tree. Excitedly, they climbed into its branches, spinning webs as they went. When Santa saw the dusty grey webs he knew the spiders were happy with their work but also knew the woman would be saddened by them. To make everyone happy, he turned the webs to silver and gold, making the tree shimmer and shine. That's why we put garland on our trees, and that's why every tree should have at least one Christmas spider!
