On June 24, 1947 a private pilot saw objects over Mount Rainer that became known
as the first "flying saucers". Two weeks later, U. S. Army officials reported finding
a crashed flying saucer near Roswell, NM. The next day they insisted that it was
nothing but a weather balloon but rumors persist that they actually recovered alien
corpses and performed autopsies on them.
Rumors of these events have continued, fed by numerous sites on the Web in recent
years. In this, the 50th anniversary of these first sitings, I found an article in the
Seattle Times with a selected list of Web sites pertaining to UFOs and similar
occurances. Whether you believe in UFOs, as many do, or do not believe in them,
as I do not, the subject is an interesting one so I have reproduced links to the sites
discussed - something for the avid Web surfer to peruse during the hot days of the
coming months.
