Job Search

Some years back, before my retirement, among the problems of employees was the trend for mergers and corporate takeovers. While I survived two of these attacks I had many sleepless nights of worry and saw many co-workers dumped out into the cold - even after many years of faithful service. One thing we did not have to be concerned about was "downsizing". In those times downsizing was something your wife did when her diet was so successful that she went from a size 10 to a size 8 in her dresses - a happy time for all concerned. However, corporate America has now managed to turn this happy wording to a dreaded condition every bit as devastating to their employees as the mergers and corporate takeovers of earlier times.
One added factor that may help those bitten by the downsizing bug is the Wide World Web. During my surfing of the Web I have found many sites advertising job openings and even providing, at no cost to the poster, places where job seekers can place their resumes.
While the field is much too broad for an individual such as myself to cover in its entirety I have determined to do my little bit by posting bits and pieces of what I have found in hopes that it will help those caught in the downsizing vise. If only one person is successful in relocating and salvaging his/her career my efforts will not have been in vain.
There are several very comprehensive sites which offer their services on a nationwide basis. Foremost among this is Americas's Job Bank which is maintained by an agency of the United States government. Other large Web sites which job seekers may find of assistance include Career Mosaic, Career Path, E-Span, Monster Board, and Online Career Center. These six are generally considered the Big Six among job search experts.
Supplementing the Big Six are a number of sites maintained by individual states which cover job openings in their own organizations and, in some cases, private employers within the state. Following is a list of those that I have found. As I find more I will add them to this list and hopefully some day will have a complete list of such sites.

In addition, thousands of individual companies have their own recruitment areas which users may find of assistance if they want to target a specific company or industry. Here is a list of a few of the many available sites. I certainly expect to be adding to this list in the future so if you don't find what you seek today come back again another day and you may find I have added just what you are looking for.

I have looked at all of the sites listed above using Netscape. I presume that Microsoft's Internet Explorer will also work but I am not so sure about all of them working with Lynx. It would be unfortunate if Lynx would not work on some of them since I am sure that some of you out there do not have access to anything but the Lynx text browser.
