Man, 82, Dies In Home Fire

Neighbor Unable to Rescue Him.
Daniel O'Brien, 82, was burned to death Friday night, when fire destroyed his one and one-half story home on Lawndale Road, about three blocks north of Shattuck Road in Saginaw Township.
O'Brien lived alone in the house.
Corner Gugel said O'Brien's body was found in the living room of his house, about four feet from the front door, which was bolted.
Although cause of the fire has not yet been determined, Gugel said it may have been the result of a kerosene lamp which either exploded or fell from a table.
Saginaw firemen were called at 9:25 p.m. but were unable to save the house.
Robert Rupes, a neighbor, the first on the scene, said he tried to rescue the fire victim but was unable to get into the living room of the house because of intense heat.
Mr. O'Brien was born Sept. 25, 1867, in Zilwaukee. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel O'Brien, were pioneer residents of Thomas Township.
