'May' handbag

 'May'  handbag 
   
 Materials used :     
 - Hook F5 
 - Royaal acrylic yarn (100g = 225m) - grey (MC) 
 - button 
  
* No gauge given b'coz these bags can be crocheted to your own prefered size using your prefered yarns.  

 Note : Be sure to have a multiple of 7 stitches (per motif) if you need to enlarge the size of your bag.  
             Instruction here is for 9 'shell' motifs repeats (total stitches for  9 motifs : 7 x 9 = 63 sts)  
               
 Instruction :     
 Rnd 1 : Ch22, sc into 2nd ch from hook, 1sc each into next 19chs, 3sc into last ch. 
             Working on the other side of ch,  1sc each into next 19chs, 2sc into last st  
             (same st where 2sc were made at the beginning of work), sl st to 1st sc to join (44sc)   
 Rnd 2 : Ch2, hdc into same st, 1hdc each into next 19sts, work (2hdc each into next st) 3 times,  
            1hdc each into next 19sts, 2hdc each into last 2sts, sl st to 2nd ch to join (50sts) 
 Rnd 3 : Ch1, 2sc into same st, 1sc each into next 20sts, work (2sc into next st, 1sc into next st) 
             3 times, 1sc each into next 19sts, work (2sc into next st, 1sc into next st) twice. 
             Sl st to 1st sc to join (56sc) 
 Rnd 4 : Ch2, hdc into same st, 1hdc each into next 21sts, work (2hdc into next st, 1hdc each 
             into next 2sts) 3 times, 1 hdc each into next 19sts, work (2hdc into next st, 1hdc each  
             into next 2sts) twice.  Sl st to 2nd ch to join. (62sts) 
 Rnd 5 : Ch1, 2sc into same st, 1sc each around.  Sl st to 1st sc to join. (63sts) 
 Rnd 6 : Working in back loops only, ch2, 1hdc into each back loop around, sl st to 2nd ch to join. 
 Rnd 7 & 8 : Working in both loops, ch2, 1hdc into each st around, sl st to 2nd ch to join.  

 Beginning of motif rounds : 
 Rnd 9 : Ch3, dc into next st, *sk 2sts.  Into next st, work (2dc, 2ch, 2dc)[1 shell made] 
             sk 2sts, 1dc each into next 2sts.  Repeat from * around, sl st to 3rd ch to join. 
 Rnd 10 : FPsc into same st, ch2 [1 beginning FPdc made], FPdc into next st, **1shell into sp of  
              next shell, FPdc each into next 2sts .  Repeat from ** around, sl st to 2nd ch to join. 
 Rnd 11 - 13 : Work as Rnd 10. 
 Rnd 14 - 15 : Work as Rnd 10 but shell is made by working (2dc, 3ch, 2dc) 
 Rnd 16 : Work as Rnd 10 but shell is made by working (2dc, 4ch, 2dc) 
 Rnd 17 & 18 : Work as Rnd 10 but shell is made by working (3dc, 2ch, 3dc) 
 Rnd 19 : Ch1, ***sc into 1st dc of shell, work (ch3, sc into next dc) twice.  Ch3, sc into sp,  
              work (ch3, sc into next dc) twice, ch3, sk 1 dc, sc into next st.  
              Repeat from *** around.  Sl st to 1st sc to join.  
              Fasten and break off yarn. Weave in loose ends. 

 Handle : (make 2) 
 Rnd 1 : Ch65, sc into 2nd ch from hook, 1sc into next 62ch, 3dc into last ch, working on the other 
             side of chain, 1sc into next 62ch. 2sc into last st, sl st to 1st sc to join. 
 Rnd 2 : Ch1, work Rev sc into each st around.  Sl st to join.  
             Fasten and break off yarn.  Weave in loose ends. 

 Button cover : 
 Rnd 1 : Make a loop and into this loop, ch1, 8sc into loop, sl st to 1st sc to join. (8sc) 
 Rnd 2 : Ch1, 2sc each into each st around, sl st to 1st sc to join. (16sc) 
 Rnd 3 : Ch1, 1sc into each st around, sl st to 1st sc to join. (16sc) 
 Put button to working piece to cover button with the following rounds. 
 Rnd 4 : Ch1, dec sc around, sl st to 1st sc to join. (8sc) 
 Rnd 5 : Ch1, dec sc around, sl st to end.  Break off yarn and leave a long tail for sewing button to bag. 

 Button loop : 
 Join yarn to back of bag at round 18, sp in middle shell with sl st.  Ch20, sl st into same same again. 
 Ch1, work Rev sc into each ch around, sl st to join.  Break off yarn and leave a long tail to tack  
 to bag and also to sew button loop into size to fit button.  Weave in loose end. 

 Finishing :     
 Note : Front of bag is side with only 4 shells motifs - where post is in the middle 
           (back is with 5 motifs - where shell is in middle).  
 Sew button to Rnd 17, middle front post of front side of bag.  
 Sew front handle on front post from Rnd 17 on either side of button. 
 Sew back handle on Shell from Rnd 17 on either side of button loop. 

 Stitches used : 
 FPsc : Front Post single crochet 
 FPdc : Front Post double crochet 
 Rev sc : Reverse single crochet
