Deva Sigamani Gunaseelan, originally from Chennai, South India, is an acclaimed Bharata Natyam dancer whose lifelong involvement with dance covers an impressive spectrum of performance, choreography and pedagogy. Deva Gunaseelan, the Artistic Director, Founder and Choreographer of Gunaseelan Dance Company, is a dancer, costume designer, conductor, research-scholar, perfectionist and a father. He is actively involved with the Theosophical Society of India. Few of the feathers in his hat are research in Indian dance, Bharatanatyam, vocal (Karnatic music), Nattuvangam (Conductor), Kathakali style of dance, traditional Indian folklore, costume & jewelry design, Yoga and yoga therapy etc. Deva believes in spreading universal truth & discovering inner beauty with contentment through dance by blending kinesthetic sense with yoga techniques. Deva Gunaseelan�s performance and choreographic history include works in India, Canada and USA. The spirited artiste, who is a Philosophy graduate and Masters in Public Administration, holds many post-graduate credits from Kalakshetra, and has been part of several noteworthy events, in a career spanning two decades & has appeared as a guest artists numerous dance companies in India, United States and Canada His life has been profoundly altered by his experiences of teaching and learning. He believes that dance can not only entertain and inspire, educate through it. Lifetime involvement with the Theosophical Society of India, his choreographic works speak for themselves. |

Currently, Deva is busy researching and composing music for a new project to be premiered in February 2005. He serves on the Board of Directors for Dance Ontario Association and is a member of Danny Grossman Dance Company and CADA (Canadian Alliance for Dance Artists) & life member in Theosophical Society Of India.
