When a fellow says, Remember the article that traced the Israelites through the Sinai Desert on their way to making Aliyah? Yes, we're not rich, but think of the money we save by being here.
Some of us once worked in voluntary American Zionist organizations. We're now working for the Big Zionist Organization, which saves us money all the time.
We save on El Al plane tickets to Israel. We're here. We save on hotel arrangements - we have our permanent "hotel" rooms. We save on big UJA dinners, with guilt trips for those who don't contribute. We got the trip but not the guilt (nor the gelt).
But, you still ask, what do we live on? How do we support ourselves? How do we put the bacon (oops!) on the table? We can't eat philosophy.
True.
However, we do have a precedent, back in I Kings 17:14. Elijah helped a widow make a living for herself and her son. He told her that if she would do as instructed, then the flour jug would never be empty, and the oil dish would replenish itself. True, those containers didn't have much to start with, but lasted a long time.
That jug of flour and oil dish explain how our salaries slips work. There's not much to start with, but somehow it lasts.
"It ain't the money
but the principle
of the thing,"
it's the money
