Managing
Israel as an acquired taste

Things will not necessarily turn out just as you had expected. Circumstances will differ from those you had expected in your previous home. They may be so different that you would have difficulty putting your finger on them. Israel represents its own unique civilization, culture, and way of life.

That difference means that you may be frustrated with various things because you're not used to them. You may ask why things aren't done the (supposedly) superior way that "we" (Americans) do it.

It also means that you will have to learn how to appreciate Israel. You may even have to force yourself to appreciate it.

It's an acquired taste.

You can deal with this situation best if you remember why you came to Israel.

It is also helpful to remember that Israel does have room for improvement. You may be able to help Israel improve.

You should not want to turn Israel into a mini-America. However, your efforts may bring you just a little bit closer to creating a better Israel. Everybody will be happy with that accomplishment.

And it will make it easier for you to acquire the taste.

Where do you want to go?
