IMPACT : AFRICA

Vulnerability- High

Adaptive Capacity-
Low

Agriculture-

Grain yields projected to decrease, resulting in less
food security, especially in small, food importing
     countries.

Animals & Plants-
Significant extinctions of species are projected.

Costal Areas-
Sea level rise will submerge or erode some costal
areas, especially in the Gulf of Guinea, Senegal,
Gambia, Egypt and along the East and South
     Coasts.

Deserts-
Deserts will increase in size, due to less annual
rainfall, runoff and soil moisture. This would
especially affect North, South and West Africa.

Health-
Increased range of vector borne diseases (malaria,
dengue fever, yellow fever and encephalitis) would
     cause greater risk of infection.

Water Resources-
Major African rivers are sensitive to climate change.
Average runoff and water availability would decrease
     in Mediterrenean/Southern Africa.
Increased drought/flood will negatively affect water
     resources.
