Landmark to upgrade to digital theaters

Landmark Theaters, the nation's largest independent movie theater chain, cut a deal to install a digital movie projection system based on Microsoft's Windows software in its 53 theaters nationwide. But the Windows Media 9 software does not offer the film resolution needed to project crystal-clear images on large screens.

Lawsuits target ads at start of films

The practice of showing commercials before the start of movies defrauds the public and should be stopped, according to lawsuits filed in Chicago against two movie-theater chains. The on-screen commercials delay the start of films beyond the posted times, which deceives theatergoers, the lawsuits claim.

This year actors are getting another tough break in a tough town, as theater owners apparently have cut off the freebies many of them have traditionally offered to card-carrying members of the Screen Actors Guild.

     A lean, silhouetted figure stays one step ahead of his pursuer. Along the way he metamorphoses into an airline pilot, a doctor and a lawyer, pausing briefly to dally with girls around a pool and at a swank party.
     "Catch Me If You Can," Steven Spielberg's film about a young con artist, has a fast-moving and clever title sequence whose style harks back to the animated openings of several '60s classics.

Sept. 11, 2002- Kim Hunter, the versatile actress who won a supporting Oscar in 1951 as the long-suffering Stella in “A Streetcar Named Desire” and appeared as chimpanzee psychiatrist Zira in three “Planet of the Apes” movies, died Wednesday. She was 79.
