November's questions:

Wine-ing

Dear Rainbow Girl:

I would like to know if wine lipcolour will be the right look for this fall.

Miss Wine

Dear Miss Wine:

Sure... but make the colour glossy and sheer- not matte!

I'm Too Much of a Hip-y

Dear Rainbow Girl:

I have such big hips.  Can you suggest to me what kind of clothes to wear to make them look smaller?  Lots of my friends say that they're huge!

So Worried

Dear So Worried:

Try boy-cut jeans... y'know, the ones that hang low on the hips.  These will play down your large hips.  Try vertical stipes on skirts and the happening look... vertical stripes on pants for an even greater downplay.

Peeling and Acne at the Same Time?!?

Dear Rainbow Girl:

I have less than perfect skin and some blemishes , and recently I've had to use an acne medicine.  Although I use the type for sensitive skin and followed directions carefully, my skin has been peeling.  I discontinued use of the product, but the flakes won't go away.  What should I do?  Also, do you have any recomendations for a zit zapper?

Ms. Peel

Dear Ms. Peel:

Do you moisturize your skin regularily?  Even if your skin is oily or you have an acne problem, you should still moisturize your skin daily to keep it healthy and not damaged.  Do not apply too much acne medication- only use it on problem areas.  For now, just try to go light on the medication and wash your face every day with a light facial cleanser.  As for zit zappers, I don't know of any great commercial ones offhand, but I know some that you can try out of products you can find around your house.

  1. Toothpaste:  Try it!!  It really works.  Before bed, dab a dot on all those zits and have a good night's sleep!  (Don't smush the paste on your pillow though!!)  Before you know it, you should see some reslults!!
  2. Lemon Juice:  Open that fridge and pour some lemon juice over the acne areas.  This helps dry up the oil and works real great!

This "Friends" Hairsyle Has Become an Enemy!

Dear Rainbow Girl:

I have the "Friends" hairstyle, but after a few hours, it starts looking flat and dull, what should I do?

Bad Hair

Dear Bad Hair:

First off, find some styling product that "promises" lasting hold all day.  Massage or spray this into your hair at the begginning of the day, blowdry, and tease slightly.  (If you don't know how to tease hair, see The Hair)  Stick a comb in your pocket to tease hair during the day if needed.  To give your hair an extra shine boost, try a shine enhancer after you shower.

So Beautiful... So Short

Dear Rainbow Girl:

I have a 17 year old daughter who is just under 5 ft.  She always complains about her hight but just doesn't like wearing high shoes.  Any suggestions of the type of clothes that might make her look taller?

Absolutely Beautiful

Dear Absolutely Beautiful:

Firstly, keep telling her how pretty she is.  I know when my mom compliments me, it makes me feel really good.  Even if she doesn't say it feels good... it does!!  I know first hand.  Secondly, she shouldn't wear flared or really wide jeans- this will just accentuate her shortness. The pants that would look best on her are the ones that are slightly fitted.  Slim-cut jeans are cool this fall. Get her to try clothes with vertical stripes cause those always help.  Short skirts look great on short girls because they make the legs appear longer.  Thirdly, tell her that some tall, tall girls appear to be awkward and aggresive looking, short ones appear more ladylike.

I Don't Wanna Be "Cute"

Dear Rainbow Girl:

How can I look older?  And prettier not cute.  I'm 14 and everyone tells me I'm "cute" but I think that's for little kids.

"Cute"

Dear "Cute":

Try wearing mature-looking clothing.  Don't wear too much makeup because you might look like you're trying too hard.  When you're older, you'll get the last laugh because you'll look younger than everyone else!

I Hate My Hair!

Dear Rainbow Girl:

I hate my hair it's always in the way.  What can I do?

Anonymous

Dear Anonymous:

I have two suggestions for you.  Either cut your hair to a short, easy to care for style, or put it up. Look at The Hair for some nifty up-do ideas.
