March for Parks

March for Parks

Willard Hutt, Executive Director of the Association for the Education and Preservation of African-American History, will be leading AEPAH's 2000 March for Parks event. March for Parks is America's largest annual Earth Day event, created to raise money for parks across the United States.

There will be a walkathon and tour of African-American sites in Washington, D.C. The tour will be conducted by the Executive Director of the Association for the Education and Preservation of African-American History. Funds collected will benefit the Washington, D.C. Black History National Recreational Trail.

The walkathon and tour will start at the Frederick Douglass Home in SE Washington D.C. at 8 AM on Saturday, April 22. A second tour will begin at 12 noon. The tour will follow the Black History Trail route.

Brochures exploring the African-American History of Washington, D.C. will be provided. The walkathon will last approximately two hours and will conclude at Dumbarton Oaks cemetery.  Hikers can either walk the trail back to the Frederick Douglass Home or catch a van back to the Frederick Douglass Home.

Pledge forms can be mailed to you or picked up at the Walkathon. Please contact Willard Hutt via e-mail at [email protected] to request pledge forms. Pledges and Donations are due by June 1, 2000.

If you live in another city and cannot make it to Washington, D.C. to participate, tax-deductible pledges and donations can be made directly to the Association for the Education and Preservation of African-American History.

If you would like to make a pledge, would like to volunteer to march, or if you want more in-depth information on this project, please contact:
