Building The Shop

Since we live in the northeast I had to do some unique things to the shop. First, I have both incandescent and florescent lights in the shop. To save about $30 per light, the florescent lights aren't the cold starting type. The incandescent lights are used in cold weather until the shop gets warm. Second, heating oil is cheaper then kerosene, so I use heating oil and store it inside the shop which stays 30 degrees warmer then outside. The heating oil hasn't gelled through two winters and changing between 16 gal. kegs is like changing propane tanks on the gas grill.

The insulation is in and the drywall is hung. That's me putting the finish touches on the drywall. Installing the cabinets. In the background, the television can be turned toward the door so it can be watched on the deck. The neighbors love this during the summer.

The ceiling mounted oil furnace is adequate for the shop. In the foreground, the pull down stairs allow access to the storage space in the attic. To use heating oil instead of kerosene in the winter, I store the oil in 16 gallon kegs inside the shop. I used hydraulic hose and quick disconnects for plumbing and alternate between two kegs.

I was outstanding in the field when I took this picture of the house with new siding and the garage addition. It's hard to see, but if you look past the cows in the foreground you can see the house.
