The Shop Teacher
Ron Reid:
High school was my first exposure to metal working
and my shop teacher had a saying. 'Every skill you learn in life is a feather
in your cap. Those with the most feathers will be known as chiefs.' Well,
my head piece is far from spectacular, but I think I have enough feathers
to duct tape together to make a nice feather duster. |
The Retirement Gang
Henry Baker, Ted Carper, and Herb Ritchey:
These guys have shown me the benefits of having
a place to B.S. and tinker. Their shops were filled with adventure and
stories of times gone by, but each had the same advice. Start your shop
while you are young and enjoy it throughout life instead of waiting for
retirement. This has proven to be most helpful in keeping my devilish personality
out of trouble. |
Rudy Kouhoupt
Rudy is one of the best writers in the hobby
of miniature engine building, and his wealth of knowledge in the machinist
field is translated in his work. I enjoy reading and building his projects
and have had the pleasure of meeting him at the 1998 Cabin Fever Expo.
If I can become half the machinist that Rudy is, I will have passed 90%
of the skilled craftsmen on this earth. Thank you Rudy for showing me the
pleasure of being a machinist. |

Rudy and I during Cabin Fever Expo
2000. Notice the twinkle in my eye as he tells me that he too owns a Canon
Rebel 2000 camera, and uses it for publishing his work.
