Personal Thoughts by JMcQ

In the past, NeuFutur has been criticized for being too impersonal, too cold, whether it would be through the computer layout of the first few issues or through the sheer lack of personal pieces in the zine. Thus, with pieces such as this and "Walking" in #5, I have entered into the realm of personal narrative.

To get started, pretty much anyone that knows me knows that I have been going out with the love of my life, Alyson Sklar, for what is going on six months. We started going out in February, after having a wonderful night at a party and dating another few times. At the beginning of the relationship, I am ashamed to say that I did not think the relationship would continue after she graduated. Brother, was I wrong. Two months after she graduated, we are still going strong. There are those in the public eye who say that long-distance relationships do not work. Well, they are wrong.

All one has to be to be successful in a long-distance relationship is loving and completely and utterly stubborn. We both have these qualities, so we will not let this fail. We call each other every night, as well as send each other a number of e-mails, mixtapes, cookies, and letters. And when we get together, it is like the entire world falls mute, and nothing could stop us.

I have three more years of undergraduate school. After that, I will be going to graduate school, where I will bring Alyson along with me. Hopefully everything can work out. Polar bears do not usually stay together in the wild, but the pair consisting of a zinester and a fabulous Jewish diva will defy all odds and accomplish the unexpected. Ad Astra Per Aspera is my motto, and with Alyson pushing me to accomplish more, I know I can go to Altissima Astra (the highest stars).
