Ack! I watch our local religious channel to see some of the music videos, but it seems like it always goes back to preaching. Now, we have this guy that looks like Harry Anderson from Florida, and he makes the atrocious claim that all LGBT people are shaky on their sexual identity. He tries to go and make the claim that the nuclear family is the best, and while mentioning Elton John's bisexuality, does not go and make the claim that Anne Heche might be a bisexual person. Quoting from Heche's books, he makes it seem, while not directly saying it, that lesbianism is something one can change. Wrong, bucko.
He wishes to go and "correct" Rosie O'Donnell, but his belief in the Bible is fundamentally flawed in the fact that he takes Homosexuality as wrong, instead of taking the contextual clues that various passages in the Greek bible used a term for "soft-willed", in reference to male prostitutes that would take the bottom position in sex. His most atrocious claim is that Lesbian and Gay parents should not have adopted kids because the children need a mother and a father. He makes the claim that a Lesbian/Gay couple would go and taint the way kids are being taught.
First, Bob Coy comes off as a nice man, but starts going off in this horrid tangent, spouting various facts only tangentially tied to anything that he is talking about, in a straw man argument. A male-female family is "God's model", and Rosie O'Donnell even is likened to Andrea Yates, the mother who killed her children. And the audience sits there. Is that not something that would just be offensive? Also taking the claim that a lot of the Lesbians and Homosexuals are just getting together with members of the same-sex because they've been burned by prior experience, or by not having a mother or father.
Now, I am not saying that all organized church, or loud, voracious preachers are bad, but there are definitely some people unworthy of leading large masses of people. The aforementioned Bob Coy is one of these unworthy people, and groups like the reconciling churches are more of the type that people should look up to. When we have these people locked in a chapel with people with such harmful views, the indoctrination can begin. When these people call upon the great myth of what America used to be, it is like rat poison - sweet but deadly. The politics of hatred are more easily taken down with a calm voice and a smile.
