This photograph courtesy of NASA space images (see the links page for many more images of Earth) shows where our campground was located. The rapids are caused by the steep decent of the river through the valley formed in the shadow of Mt. Hood (Oregon's highest peak). The water that floated our raft will eventually flow down the Deschutes to the Columbia and out to the Pacific Ocean. Check out the color of the map where our campsite was located. Looks like the color of sand and rocks right? This, I can assure you, is not a deceiving photograph!
