Board of Trustees Update

At our most recent reunion at Dartmouth in May of 2003 we collected $300.00 in dues. Our treasurer, Hermano Ernesto, will be sending this money to Hermano Omar who will be opening up our bank account soon in accordance with our 501(3)(c) status fund. Hermano Omar says he will soon have this up and running and from there, through his connections at the Duke Law School, will be incorporating our organization in accordance with our mission. We also hope to be collecting more dues at our next alumni reunion, tentatively planned for May of 2004. Once we have enough money to get all of the logistics up and running we should be able to fund raise as an organization much more smoothly.

Vice President Hermano Fernando reports that he and President Hermano Danny have been in touch with national LUL including Hermano Jason Torres, Hermano Ivan Rosado, Hermano Jessie Mejia, and Hermano Tony T. about our national recognition. Soon after we adopted our constitution and list of officers, Dartmouth Alumni Affairs filed them in their office and allowed us the use of the 'Dartmouth' name, giving us full recognition as an alumni organization with all the privileges that come with it. This recognition has strongly boosted our case as an organization that has existed for so many years now, and we are hoping this momentum will push us right through nationals. In fact, Hermano Fernando hopes that with the work of the fall and return to life, the folks at Nationals will be able to finally look at our case!

Our biggest organizing event of the fall is showing the undergraduate front of the Psi Chapter support at our Fifth Annual Noche Dorada. We have made it a tradition to present awards from our group and handing out information on the alumni association at the event. This year's awards go out to Hermano Ali, Hermano Brian Delgado '04, and the women of Sigma Lambda Upsilon Sorority, Alpha Beta Colony at Dartmouth College.

Hermanos Brian and Robert Baca '04 are expecting to graduate this June and become the newest members of our group. Good luck!

National LUL

This year’s National Convention will take place November 15, 2003 in Boston. Any and every Hermano in the area is encouraged to attend.

Our 21st Anniversary Gala is tentatively scheduled for February 21of 2004. Recently there has been some talk that it might be held in a location other than the traditional New York City venue, possibly Washington DC, so bros in the south: keep an eye open! We hope to have a good showing at the event of alumni, undergraduate Hermanos, LUL interest, and anyone else interested in coming with us to celebrate this joyous occasion for our national fraternity.

Through recognition on the national LUL level, we hope to soon have a means of paying dues to nationals along with all the privileges and responsibilities that come with it. Included in recognition that we are all looking forward to are a table at National Convention including voting rights, and a table at Gala. In the mean time, we are free agents, though our primary focus remains to support each other and the Psi chapter at the Dartmouth College level.

Recently Hermano Brian was on the national committee reviewing the national intake process. He was very excited to be part of this initiative making a difference for one of the only national fraternities to have an intake process. As part of the committee, Brian had the opportunity to revise uniform details, dates of intake progress, and the overall vision for our intake process.

Reunion 2004

Our next reunion is tentatively scheduled for the weekend of May 8, 2004, at Dartmouth. We plan for our reunion to coincide with Pow Wow at Dartmouth as many of the alumni have very fond memories of the Native American aspect of Latino life at Dartmouth. Please check this newsletter next term for the official word on the next reunion.
