William R. Hayes, 2nd Dan

At the age of 19, William returned home to Juneau, Alaska from Army Basic Training, Infantry and Airborne School and began fulfilling a childhood dream of  studying Martial Arts. He started Judo in 1990 with the Glacier Valley Judo Club. Then in February 1991, he was introduced to Ormanian's Tang Soo Do run by Master Michael Ban. In 1995, the Glacier Valley Judo Club disbanded and William concentrated all of his training in Tang Soo Do.

On July 7, 1997, Master Aaron Ormanian conducted the 100th Dan Test of Ormanian's Tang Soo Do in Juneau, Alaska. During that test, William achieved the rank of 1st Dan.

In the last 2 years, William increased his Martial Arts studies to include Te Kyon with Master Song Pak and Aikido with Sensei Christopher Keller.  Currently, William attends Tang Soo Do 3 nights a week and Aikido 3 nights a week.

During class, you can usually find William barking orders to other students or training next to the white belts during basic motions and forms practice.  Occasionally, you'll see him with other instructors observing students in class and smiling as they perform various techniques and motions. Overall, William takes pleasure in finding similarities within all four Arts.

Of course none of this would be possible without the love and support of his wife, Louisa, and their daughter, Mary. William proudly serves our country full-time in the Alaska Army National Guard (12 years of service and still going).
