Orange belt meaning and requirements

Orange belt represents between Winter and Spring.  It is the initial growth of the seed.  Orange also represents the second stage of physical and mental development.

Hyung requirements for orange belt:

Gi Cho Hyung Ill Bu
Gi Cho Hyung Ye Bu
Gi Cho Hyung Sam Bu

Other requirements:

Basic motions
All basic kicks (front, side and back).
Three one steps (punch, soo do, and side kick)
Korean terminology for above requirements

Oral Test white (10th gup) to Orange (8th gup)
(any or all of the following questions may be asked)

  1.  Why do we train without shoes?
  2.  Why should you practice the same techniques over and over?
  3.  Why should you keep your hands closed?
  4.  Why should you keep your wrist straight when punching?
  5.  How do you address your instructor?
  6.  What is the function of meditation?
  7.  Why do we salute the flags?
  8.  Where area the knees located in the horseback stance?
  9.  Give an explanation on your Hyung (form).
10.  Give an explanation on your one steps.
11.  Who is the founder of the Korean Karate Academy?

The following questions are also asked if testing from white to orange (7th gup):

1.  Give a brief History of Tang Soo Do.
2.  When was the Korean Karate Academy founded?
3.  Where is the weight distributed in the front stance, back stance, etc.?
4.  Can basic motions be applied in self-defense?
5.  Where is your body speed derived?
6.  What does the term "focus" mean?
7.  Name the striking areas of the foot.
8.  Name the striking areas of the fore fist.
9.  Why do we stress no contact?
10.  Why do we stress control?
