The Unknown Man
Chapter 1

The silk of the dress whispered as she decended down the elaborately decorated marble steps. Her long chestnut hair flowed from under her dainty crown, fell down her back and framed her delicate face. The deep purple dress accented her unique violet eye color. She smiled as she heard the hush fall over the large ballroom. The croud parted and bowed as she slowly made her way to the thrones. She smiled at her Mother and Father as she sat down in her throne. She watched as her father stood up and cleared his throat.

"Welcome, my people, to my daughters twenty-first birthday. Enjoy yourselves this evening, for this is a night of celebration!" the King announced with a smile.

The King raised his hand to signal for the musicians to start the music. He settled himself back in his throne as the guests started dancing. The King and Queen talked quietly to each other as their daughter watched the exciting moment unfold. Her eyes scanned over the croud that had gathered to celebrate her birthday. She smiled when she saw that the guests were enjoying themselves, but her smile faded away when she saw the long line of men, young and old, waiting to dance and talk to her. She quietly groaned in displeasure. Her mother turned to see her beloved daughter looking at her numerous suitors.

"Aren't they handsome?" Her mother whispered to her. "Any one of them would happily marry you."

'And happily count the money that comes with the marrige.' she thought.

She sighed and looked down at her feet, silently praying that the night would end quickly. She was tired of having men paraded around her, hoping that one would spark her interest. None ever had. She wanted to marry out of love, not marry to bring money or land to her Kingdom. She glanced at her parents, wondering how they learned to love each other.

"Daughter, don't you think that it is time to greet your suitors?" her father asked.

She loked at her suitors and silently groaned again. She put a stressed smile on her face as she raised herself from her throne. Walking across the ballroom, she looked at the long line of men, seeing no kind of love in their eyes, only greed. This was going to be a long night.
