The Dream….

“I’m going to go take a quick shower before we go back downstairs.” Chris said as he and Kaliegh walked into his room after he had been working out most of the afternoon. “Make yourself at home.” He added before disappearing into the bathroom.

Kaliegh walked across the room and sat down in one of the chairs, but got up a few minutes later after finding it impossible to get comfortable. She walked over to the window, realizing that she was more nervous than she could ever remember being. She laughed softly at herself, finding it somewhat amusing that after all the time that she and Chris had been friends that she would be nervous in his presence. Their friendship though had become something deeper over time and both she and Chris knew that at any second they would take the last step to make their relationship complete.

Kaliegh smiled at the thoughts that raced through her mind. Being with Chris in that way had been something she had dreamed of for a long time and she couldn’t wait for that dream to become a reality. Something inside told her that night would see it happen.

Taking a deep breath to calm her trembling pulse, she went over to the bed and sat back against the headboard to wait for Chris to finish his shower. Closing her eyes, she allowed her mind to wander, only to jarred out of her heated thoughts a few minutes later when she heard Chris come out of the bathroom and enter the room. She looked up and two pairs of blue eyes locked with the other, making their breath catch sharply. They stayed lost in each other’s eyes for a few moments until she got up, crawled to the middle of the huge bed and came to her knees. She watched, barely able to breathe properly as Chris did the same and joined her there.

The towel that he held around his hips fell away as he reached out to frame her face in his big hands. She began to shake even more as she realized that there was no longer anything covering Chris and the only thing that separated them was the clothes that she wore. She looked back up at Chris and he smiled down at her as he slowly leaned forward until his lips touched against hers.

Kaliegh moaned softly, instantly became lost as her arms went around his waist and her body melted into his. The kiss that had started out gentle at first, quickly deepened as passion consumed both of their senses.

Chris moved back and quickly pulled her shirt off before bending his head again, leaving a trail of hot kisses along her jaw and neck. She threw her head back, allowing him better access. Ripples of desire coursed through her veins when he found the sensitive spot on the back of her neck and gently nuzzled it.

He returned his mouth to hers as his hands found the fastenings on the small bit of lace that served as a bra. In seconds he had it off and had tossed it across the room. A deep groan rumbled in his throat as he pulled her closer to him and felt her skin burning against his. Holding her tight, Chris picked her up slightly and then carefully placed her on her back. He followed her down until his body completely covered hers. He felt shivers racing along his spine as she ran her long fingernails across his broad shoulders, down his back and then up his muscled chest. Then moving his long hair back, she broke the heated kiss and whispered her request.

“Chris, please…” She did not get a chance to finish as Chris covered her mouth with his in a hungry kiss, more than willing to oblige to her demands.

His strong hands made quick work of her remaining clothes, and before either of them was aware of it, Chris buried himself deep inside of her. He had to stop for a moment and take a deep breath as he fought the over whelming need to take her hard and quick, making her all his in a matter of seconds. But he didn’t want their first time to be that way. Finally the urge passed and he began to move slowly.

Kaliegh thought she would go insane from the sweet assault that Chris was giving her body. The sounds coming from him thrilled and excited her even more. Amidst deep growls, he moaned her name over and over. That itself nearly sent her crashing over the edge. And just when she thought she could take no more and would explode, Chris stopped suddenly and with a wicked grin on his face, he pulled out completely.

Kaliegh gasped, shocked by the feeling of emptiness that she was experiencing by not having him in her anymore. Chris lowered his head, kissing first her lips and then her neck and shoulders. His hands roamed freely over her body, making her whimper with desire and plead with him for mercy.

Chris continued on his fiery path, kissing his way down to her breasts, stopping only long enough to tease each of her already sensitive and aching nipples before moving on further to her flat, toned stomach. He kissed her pierced navel while he traced a finger along the tribal tattoo that circled it. Then he went down further until he reached his destination. He paused for a moment, letting the anticipation build before he shifted her position slightly and then bent his head to love her with his tongue. Many times he took her to her peak, only to back off at the last possible moment. After several minutes Chris had her weak with desire and begging for more. Finally when she could take no more, she grabbed two handfuls of his long hair and held him there as her hips rocked violently against his mouth.

Chris crawled back up her body and kissed her passionately as he drove himself deep inside her in one fluent move. Their two bodies molded together to become one as they quickly climbed toward the release that both of them craved and knew could only be achieved with the other. Just as they reached the point of no return, Chris entangled his legs with hers and rolled over onto his back, pulling her with him until she was astride him. The new position instantly sent them both spiraling and unable to hold back anymore. Chris grabbed her hips in a grip that would be painful for most, but for Kaliegh, it only inflamed her more. Seconds later both she and Chris reached the end and they cried out their release together.

Kaliegh collapsed across his chest, exhausted, but completely satisfied. She closed her eyes as she felt sleep quickly taking her over. The last thing she heard before drifting peacefully off was Chris’ voice telling her how much he loved her.

~~~~~
Chris awoke with a start and bolted straight upright, his body bathed in a cold sweat and the bed covers tangled around his body from a night of tossing and turning. He looked around the darkened room as he waited for his ragged breathing to become more even. He ran a hand through his hair and then over his face as the last fragments of his dream faded from his memory.
For three consecutive nights now he’d dreamed of the night of passion that he and Kaliegh had shared. The one and only time they had been able to express their love for each other before a car accident claimed her life the very next day. The same accident that left Chris seriously injured and his career hanging in limbo. He’d been in a coma for almost a month and had only been released from the hospital a few days prior.
Chris lay back down and closed his eyes as he thought back to the first time he had met Kaliegh a little over a year and a half ago. At that time she had been married to Edge and had begun to travel with the WWF after Mr. McMahon had stumbled across her talents and had offered her a job in the advertising and promotions department. She was in charge of the WWF web site, the star’s entrance videos, character and pay-per-view promotions as well as many other responsibilities. Chris had always been interested in playing a part in his character promotions so when Kaliegh had asked to meet with his to go over some ideas that she had, he jumped at the opportunity. Little did her know that over time they would become close friends and eventually fall in love while her marriage crumbled because of Edge’s inability to remain faithful to her.
Edge wasn’t going to let Kaliegh go so easily though. He knew that she and Chris were in love, and although Edge no longer had any feelings for his wife, he refused to give her the divorce that she so desperately wanted…
In the Past—Chapter One
“Damn him!” Kaliegh cursed angrily as she paced the small confines of Chris’ dressing room. She had just gotten back from talking with Edge yet again and all but begging him to just sign the papers.
“He hasn’t relented yet?” Chris asked softly although he already knew the answer. How he hated Edge for putting Kaliegh through this hell.
“No! That fucking bastard!” Kaliegh was completely furious. Edge had been dragging this mess out for over three months now. In that time she could have gotten on with her life, but he had to hold her back.
“What was his excuse this time?” Chris knew that Edge had used a variety of excuses. His latest was being that he needed to talk with his lawyer before he could sign the papers. If Kaliegh had a dime for every time that Edge had to “talk to his lawyer” she’d be one rich woman.
“He claims that he left the papers in his bag at the hotel. I know damn well that he came straight to this arena from the airport. I saw his bag sitting right there in his dressing room. I really don’t know how much more I can take of this. And he’s getting away with it because of his celebrity status and he’s got Mr. McMahon wrapped so tight around his finger that he’ll do anything for Edge. Even if it means making my life completely miserable. I’m about ready to tell him to take Edge and my job and shove them both up his ass.”
Kaliegh was still pacing, and when she went by Chris, he gently took a hold of her and wrapped his arms around her. Both sighed as they held each other close, wishing they could take it further, but neither of them feeling comfortable doing it while she was still married to Edge.
“Somehow, we’ll find a way. And this nightmare will be over.” Chris whispered his promise to her as he continued to hold her tight.
In The Past--Chapter Two…..
“Edge, Please! Stop and think about what you are doing. What is it exactly that you are hoping to gain by doing this to me?” Kaliegh was again attempting to get Edge to give in. So far he had not budged an inch.
“This is useless Edge. The only thing you are doing is making my life hell and making yourself look like a jackass. You don’t love me, and I don’t love you. Please can we just get on with our lives!” Kaliegh was literally pleading with him. Months of his bullshit had taken its toll on her and she’d had quite enough.
Edge said nothing, only stood there and looked down at her. He really didn’t have the slightest idea why he was putting her through this hell. Other than the fact that he could and he wanted to see just how far he would be able to push her and Chris. He had a certain amount of power over the both of them and he enjoyed its advantages. Edge knew that he had been getting to Chris for quite some time now and it probably wouldn’t be long before he would snap completely. And as for Kaliegh…Edge knew that she was desperate and would probably do anything to get the divorce that she wanted so badly.
”No, No…That’s not it at all.” Edge thought to himself as it fully dawned on him the real reason why he was dragging this out the way he was. He knew that deep down, he was still in love with Kaliegh. Even though it had been he who broke their marriage vows and was unfaithful. He still loved her and he was incredibly jealous that it was Chris that had her heart now.
Kaliegh’s eyes narrowed in anger as she stared back up at her “husband” She was about at the end of her rope. “What the hell do you want from me?” She screamed at him, the last of her patients gone.
Edge was taken aback slightly by the crazed look in her eyes. He could tell that she wouldn’t be participating in his games much longer. “Alright, Kaliegh. I’ll sign the papers for you first chance I get. I promise.” And Edge fully intended to keep that promise.
I’ll just find another way to keep her away from Jericho” He thought to himself once again. One way or another, Chris would be out of the picture…for good.
“Yeah, sure. I know how good your promises are.” Kaliegh replied quietly and then turned and left.
In The Past…Chapter Three…
The next couple of weeks flew by quickly and much like Kaliegh had thought, Edge still had not signed the divorce papers.
“If I have to hold a gun to his head, that jerk off is going to sign those papers…tonight!” Kaliegh said to Chris as they arrived at the arena for the SmackDown tapings that evening.
Chris had to laugh at her statement for he’d had those very same thoughts himself. He was getting to the point that he didn’t care if Kaliegh was still married to Edge. He wanted her, and he knew that she felt the same for him. He also suspected that she wasn’t going to care much longer either.
“What is so damn funny?” Kaliegh demanded to know when she heard Chris laughing. She didn’t find any humor in the situation at all.
Chris put his arms around her shoulders and drew her close to him as they walked down the long hallway to his dressing room. “We both have the same thoughts, that’s all.” Chris explained.
Kaliegh immediately felt bad for snapping at him like she did. Her patients were worn thin. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to speak to you in that tone.” She didn’t have to say anymore. She knew that Chris would understand. There was a moment of silence as they continued walking until they came to an intersecting hallway. They stopped and turned to each other.
“Well, I’ll catch ya later.” Kaliegh hated to leave him, but she had a job to do as well. And if she had a few extra minutes, she was going to confront Edge again.
“I can’t wait.”. Chris said, the sincerity plain in his eyes, as well as in his voice. He pulled her into his arms, hugging her tight before he started for his dressing room.
Kaliegh watched him until he was out of her sight and then headed down the other hallway in the opposite direction where the production teams were having a last minute meeting. As she sat through the meeting, her mind was anywhere but on it. Finally after what seemed like an eternity, it was over and she still had some time to spare before the dark matches started. With determination in her step, she headed towards Edge’s dressing room.
She cursed softly under her breath when Edge didn’t answer after she had knocked the first time. She waited a few more seconds and just as she raised her hand to pound on the door again, he finally pulled it open.
Edge was surprised to find his wife standing on the other side of the door when he opened it. He had just been thinking about her and had just been on his way out to go see her when she knocked. “Kaliegh! What a pleasant surprise. I was just on my way to see you.” Edge told her as he stepped back to allow her past and into his dressing room. He couldn’t help but to let his eyes wonder over her trim body as she walked past him and then turned around to face him once she had gotten into the room.
Kaliegh narrowed her eyes as she looked at Edge and wondered what he was up to. “What for?” She questioned him.
Edge smiled at her as he walked over to his bag and pulled some papers out. “I finally got a chance to get these signed. I’m sorry that I was such an asshole to you and that you had to wait so long for this. I never meant for us to end up this way and I hope that we can remain friend’s in the future.” He said honestly, his emotions plain in his eyes.
Kaliegh really did not know what to say as he handed the papers to her. She felt a mixture of happiness and sadness. After all she had loved this man more than anything once upon a time and even after all he had put her through, letting go wasn’t nearly as easy as she had thought it would be.
“Thanks.” Was the only reply she could come up with. She was silent for a few moments before speaking again. “I’ll get these filed right away.” Edge could only nod his head as he desperately searched his mind, trying to find a way to hold onto her.
Two weeks later, their divorce became final. Kaliegh had quickly gotten over her emotional turmoil that had been caused by the whole situation. She had been at home for a little over a week to take care of everything and would be flying in first thing the next morning to join the WWF, and most importantly to see Chris again. She fell asleep that night with a soft smile on her lips.
****
“Hey, where’s Chris?” Kaliegh asked Matt Hardy as she walked into the hotel lobby where a few of the guys were hanging out and shooting the breeze. There wasn’t any events scheduled for that day and everyone was relaxing before the pay-per-view the next night.
Matt smiled his greeting to her. “Hey, Kal. Chris is going to be so happy to see you. He’s been nearly unbearable since you left last week.” Matt told her. It was no secret what she had gone through with Edge and Matt was glad that after all was said and done, that she was finally able to get on with her life.
“Sounds just like him.” Kaliegh replied with a laugh. “Where can I find the big bear?” She asked once again, anxious to see him.
“I believe he’s in the hotel gym working out. He’s been there most of the day anyway and that is where I last saw him.” Matt answered, barely getting the words out before Kaliegh cut him off.
“Thanks Matt! I’ll catch you later.” She turned and yelled over her shoulder as she rushed off.
Kaliegh stepped through the glass door that led to the gym and stood there for a moment as she looked around. She spotted Undertaker and Kane and then her breath caught sharply when her eyes touched on Chris. She had never before thought that a man dripping in sweat could look so good, but he sure did. She stayed there and watched him work on his abs until he happened to look in her direction and realize that she was there.
Chris quickly dropped what he was doing and walked over to her. Paying no attention to the other’s that also occupied the gym, he pulled her into his arms and drew her tight against his body. “My God, it is so good to see you.” He whispered huskily into her hair. After a short time he pulled back slightly and stared into her eyes. She returned his gaze and both were immediately lost.
“Hey you two, get a room, huh!” Kane joked as he and Taker walked by them on there way out. Chris and Kaliegh jumped apart, both looking like they had just been caught with their hands in the cookie jar.
Chris glared at the two big men while Kaliegh’s cheeks flamed red. Both Taker and Kane had a good-natured laugh as they walked through the door and left.
“Come on.” Chris said as he took her hand into his and led her out of the door and toward the elevators. “Let me run up to the room and change my clothes and then we’ll come back down and have dinner or something. Sound good?”
“Sounds wonderful.” Kaliegh agreed. She didn’t care what she was doing as long as she was with him.
****
Kaliegh woke up the next morning still in his arms, her head resting on his chest. They never made it back downstairs the night before, although they had the intention to. But after Chris had taken a shower, one thing led to another and they ended up sharing an incredibly passionate moment.
Kaliegh sighed happily as she propped her head up on her elbow and gazed down into his handsome face. She thought he was asleep and was surprised when he suddenly tightened his hold on her and rolled her over onto her back. He lowered his head and his lips had just touched hers when the phone chose that moment to ring. Both of them tried to ignore it, but after about ten rings, the incessant noise had nearly drove them both crazy.
“What?” Chris growled into the phone after he had reached for it and brought it up to his ear. He listened for a few moments before saying anything. “Yeah, I’ll be there.” He said very reluctantly and then ended the call.
“They want us at the arena early. Something about some promotional work before the show tonight.” Chris explained, the irritation evident in his voice. “So I guess I’m going to have to continue this later.”
Kaliegh was visibly disappointed, as was Chris, but both knew that there was nothing they could do about it. This was their career. An hour later they were on their way to the arena, but they never made it there. A drunk driver that ran a red light plowed into their car just a few blocks from their destination.
When Edge heard about the accident later that day, he was told that both Chris and Kaliegh were still alive and had been taken to different hospitals within the city. It was then that his plan began to form in his mind.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

In the Present…Chapter Four

Chris closed his eyes, trying to fight against the sting of tears that was threatening. He had known for three days now that Kaliegh had not survived the car accident. Surprisingly enough, it had been Edge himself who had called him with the news just the day after he had been released from the hospital and had returned back to his home in Canada.

Chris was devastated when he asked about the memorial service and Edge told him that the funeral had been weeks ago while he was still in the hospital and in a coma. His grief deepened further when Edge went on to tell him that she had not been placed in a cemetery as her final place of rest, but as her wishes had stated, she had been cremated instead. Chris felt she was gone from him forever now and he had not even been able to say good-bye.

Over the last few days, many people told Chris that with time, it would be easier to accept. He knew they meant well with their words, but it was not getting any easier for him. He felt anger towards their well wishes and just wanted everyone to go away and leave him alone with his thoughts.

Every time he closed his eyes all he would see was her face and hear her sweet voice. His sleep was plagued by dreams of the last night they had spent together. The one and only time they had been able to share their love each other. And although at that time, it hurt like hell to think about it, Chris was thankful for those precious memories.

Even though his heart was heavy and ached with sadness, Chris also felt a burning fury toward the person, who had been driving while under the influence, had run the red light and plowed into their car. It was not fair to him that the drunk had escaped with out so much as a scratch. It infuriated Chris that an innocent life was taken thanks to some one’s carelessness.

Chris buried his face into his pillow and an anguished moan filled his throat as he gave into the emotions that he had been holding back. He loved and missed her so much and he honestly did not know how he was going to be able to live with out her in his life. He didn’t know if he even wanted to.

****

Edge frowned with dismay as he watched Kaliegh. She had been sitting at the window seat in her bedroom when he had gotten up that morning. That was over four hours ago and so far she still had not moved, not even an inch from that spot. She just sat there, staring out the window at nothing.

Since Edge had told her the day after the accident that Chris did not make it, she had begun to slip deeper and deeper within herself. The fact that she had readily agreed to stay with Edge while she recovered only proved that she was not herself anymore. Edge wasn’t sure if she was really even aware of what was going on around her anymore.

“Kal? You want anything for lunch?” Edge asked, again making an attempt to snap her out of her mood and get her to eat something. It had been a day or two since she had eaten anything substantial. She had basically stopped taking care of herself. Her weight had dropped drastically in the two weeks since she had been released from the hospital and had come to stay with him. There were many times when Edge did feel remorseful about the lies that he had told her and Chris concerning the events that had taken place following the accident. And he knew that he was the one solely responsible for the downward spiral that Kaliegh…and most likely Chris as well, were on. There had been one time when the guilt had nearly consumed him and he had came very close to telling her the truth….That Chris had not died, but was very much alive. But at the last second his emotions hardened once again. He was the one that she belonged with and now that he had her back again, he wasn’t about to do anything to compromise that.

When Kaliegh didn’t answer his question after he had waited several minutes, Edge sighed in frustration and left the room. He had to some how find a way to make her happy again. He had to find a way to make her start living again. As much as he hated to admit it, the way she was going, she already had one foot in her grave and was rapidly slipping. Somehow he would find a way to get through to her. He had gone through hell to get her back and he wasn’t about to lose her again.

Kaliegh knew she was losing her grip on reality, but she was helpless to stop it from happening. The fact was that she didn’t want to stop it from happening either. In her dream world, it didn’t hurt like it did in reality. Chris was still with her and everything was perfect.

***

Some time later she heard someone enter her room and approach her from behind. She smiled, recognizing that familiar presence.

“Hey, I brought you some lunch. I thought you might be hungry.” Edge said as he walked up behind her and gently placed his hands on her shoulders.

Kaliegh shivered from his touch and turned around to face the man that she loved more than anything. In her mind, it wasn’t Edge that she saw standing before her. It was Chris that she saw and his voice that she heard.

“I’m hungry, but not for food.” She whispered her reply that caught Edge completely off guard.

Edge did not realize that she thought he was Chris. He was gone completely after her comment and all he could do was stare into her eyes that had become dark with desire. It had been a long time since she had looked at him in that way and for a few seconds he was completely mesmerized. Then, without really knowing he was doing so, he reached out and framed her face in his hands as he slowly leaned forward until his lips touched gently against hers.

Kaliegh instantly wrapped her arms around him and pulled his body closer to hers. And as the last shattered threads of sanity left her mind, she began to respond to his kiss.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Chapter Five….
Kaliegh pulled him closer when she felt his tongue tracing around her lips and opened up for him. She moaned softly when she felt his tongue slide past her lips and become entwined with hers. The kiss deepened even further as his fingers began working with the buttons on her blouse. Edge groaned deep in his throat as he slipped the garment over her shoulders and found nothing but her burning skin underneath.
Braking the heated kiss, his mouth worked its way across her jaw to her neck and then further down to her breasts. Kaliegh leaned back on her hands and arched her body closer to his, allowing him better access as he took one of the delicate tips into his mouth. Remembering exactly how she liked it, he began to roughly nip and suck until it was sensitive and aching. Then he moved to the other, giving it the same treatment.
While his mouth worked its magic, his hands roamed freely over her body, making her feel like she was on fire. In no time he had her whimpering with desire and begging him for release.
“God, Chris please….I need you.” She pleaded with him, her voice thick with passion.
Edge immediately froze when he heard her call him Chris. He pulled back and looked down at her, not quite sure how to re-act. Maybe he had not heard her right or he was imagining what he heard. Kaliegh stared back at him with eyes that were glazed with lust.
“No, don’t stop. Please don’t stop.” She murmured as she entangled her fingers through his hair and pulled his head back down to hers.
Edge dismissed it, thinking that it had just been an isolated incident or that he did indeed imagine it since she seemed to see as if nothing out of the ordinary had happened. His mouth met hers in a hungry kiss as he gathered her into his arms and picked her up, He turned, placed her on the bed, and quickly removed her remaining clothes, then his own.
Both sighed with contentment as he covered her body with his and buried himself as deep as possible inside of her. They stayed still for a moment as they adjusted to each other’s bodies once again. Then with a deep, desire filled growl, he began to move. Kaliegh met each of his demanding thrusts and soon they were rapidly approaching the point of no return.
Edge threw his head back as she raked her long fingernails down his back. The slight pain inflamed him incredibly. As he reached his peak, he bent his head again and bit into her shoulder as he listened to her voice her release as well….Except that it wasn’t his name that she called out in the heat of passion. It was Chris’.
Edge knew that this time he had not heard wrong or had imagined things. He immediately became infuriated, not realizing that in her mind, she truly thought that he was Chris. He slapped her hard across one side of her face and then the other. Then he grabbed two handfuls of her hair and forced her to look into his eyes as he shook her slightly.
“I am not Chris! He is dead, and never coming back. I am the one that you belong with.” He roared furiously, his deep voice bouncing off of the walls in the room.
For a moment Kaliegh was too shocked to do anything but stare up at him As reality set in once again, tears filled her eyes and she closed them. Edge watched as she began to fall apart right before his eyes. Within seconds she had completely crumbled and she cried hysterically feeling like she had lost Chris all over again.
Knowing he was at fault. Edge’s temper rapidly dissipated and he tried to comfort her but she only pushed him away. He felt horrible for what he had just done to her. The two hand shaped red marks on each side of her face had already begun to turn a nasty shade of purple from the force that he had hit her with. Again he tried to console her, but she moved away from him to the other side of the big bed and curled into a tight ball as she began to cry even harder. So much that her entire body shook with the force of her distress
Soon Edge was unable to listen to the sound of her anguished cries and he knew that if he didn’t get out of there soon and cool off, his temper would explode again. He got up and quickly got dressed and then went quickly out of the room. He needed to think. He had to find a way to make up to her for the things that he had done to her.
Kaliegh layed there for a several minutes before she had calmed down a bit. As she got up and got back into her clothes, something inside of her snapped and she was filled with a sense of calm for the first time since she had found out that Chris had died in the accident. Without even giving it a second thought, she knew what she was going to do.
****
Edge returned back to her room about an hour later, ready to apologize for his actions and ask for her forgiveness. As he walked in, he saw that she had taken back to the window seat where he had found her earlier that morning. As he stepped up behind her, he did not notice anything out of the ordinary. It was only when he placed a hand on her shoulder to get her attention that he noticed that she was drifting in and out of consciousness. It was when he picked her up and layed her down on the bed once again that he saw the empty pill bottle that she had clutched in her hand.
Edge felt all of the blood drain from his face and thought his heart had stopped as he fully realized what she had done. For a moment he was so stunned that he could only stand there and stare down at her. But he quickly came back to his senses and picked up the phone to call for emergency help.
The ambulance arrived in no time at all and while Edge followed it back to the hospital, he had reached a decision to do something that he should have done a long time ago. He was ready to tell the truth. He picked up his cell phone and punched in a number that he knew by heart. He waited and listened as it rang five times and was about ready to give up when finally it was picked up on the other end. Edge spoke before the other person even had a chance to get anything out.
“Look Chris, I don’t have the time to explain right now, but you need to get here as soon as possible.”
Chris was silent for a moment and was hesitant to even continue this call. But something about the urgency that he heard in Edge’s voice stirred something in him and he knew that he had to get there. "Okay, where are you?” Chris asked. He thought that he could hear sirens in the background and wondered what was going on.
“Come to Memorial hospital in Toronto.” Edge told him and then abruptly ended the call as they arrived at the hospital. He followed the medical team in as they rushed her into the emergency room. He waited anxiously in the doorway, not knowing if she was still alive or not. No one seemed to take notice of him until suddenly the staff began to frantically rush around. One of the nurses came over and ordered him to go and wait in the waiting room. The last thing he heard as the doors were closed behind him was the orders that the doctor in charge yelled at his staff. “Everyone move now! We’re losing her!”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Chapter Six….

After making a few calls, Chris had been able to pull a few strings and get a jet chartered from Winnipeg to Toronto. He still wasn’t sure what to think of the phone call that he had received from Edge, but as he drove to the private airport from which they would be flying out from, he found himself becoming more anxious about the situation.

The flight to Toronto seemed to take an eternity, but finally he arrived there. Luckily it was later in the afternoon and there were not too many people at the airport that recognized him and asked for autographs and pictures. He made it through the airport and had collected his bag in a little under a half-hour. And after only ten minutes, he caught a cab and was finally on his way to the hospital.

He immediately spotted Edge when he walked through the hospital entrance. The waiting room was very near by, but Edge had taken to pacing the hallways while he waited for some kind of news…any news at all from the doctor. It had been just a little over two hours since they had arrived at the hospital and Edge had to admit that he was getting terrified from the lack of news. Another thing that he hated to admit, but had to, was that he was damn glad to see Chris.

“Edge, what’s going on?” Chris demanded to know from his one time friend. It was true. He and Edge had once been good friends, but Edge’s toward actions toward Kaliegh while they had been married and their love for the same woman eventually killed that friendship.

Edge was silent for several minutes as he contemplated just what he was going to say to Chris. It had been just four days ago that he had told him that Kaliegh was dead and now he was going to tell him that she was alive, but that she had tried to end her own life and she might not make it. Chris was liable to think that he had lost his mind. Finally Edge decided that there was no right way to tell Chris, but to get straight to the point.

“Uh…Look, the past five weeks since the accident that you and Kaliegh were in have been a lie.” Edge paused for a moment and took a deep breath before continuing. He saw the deep confusion in Chris’ eyes and pressed forward.

“As you know, I told you after you were released from the hospital earlier this week that Kaliegh had not survived the accident. Well, I lied to you. I…” Edge did not get a chance to finish as Chris cut him off sharply.

“You fucking bastard! How could you? How could you lie about something like that?” Chris roared furiously as he grabbed Edge by his shirt collar and slammed him into the nearest wall. Never before had he ever wanted to hurt some one so badly as he wanted to hurt Edge right at that moment. He had his fist drawn back and was ready to let him having it when it dawned on him that if Edge had been lying to him about Kaliegh being dead, then she must really be alive. For the time being, all the fight left him and he felt an over whelming sense of relief wash over him.

“So if Kaliegh did survive the accident, then she is alive, right?” Chris dared to ask.

“Well yes, but…” Edge struggled to find a way to explain to Chris. If he thought Chris was angry with him now, it was nothing compared to the way he would feel when Edge told him the rest of the situation.

“When Kaliegh was still in the hospital…it was the day after the accident actually. I also told her that you had not made it through the accident. After she was released from the hospital, I convinced her to come here to Toronto and stay with me while she recovered. Well, to make a long story short, she missed you something terrible and became very depressed. She eventually slipped into her own little world as she started to believe that I was you. Well, I didn’t really realize that she thought that I was you and today things got a little out of control. We ended up in bed together and when she called me Chris, I completely lost it. I lost my temper and I hit her. It was my actions that snapped her back into reality. I left her alone after that for about an hour and when I came back, she was barely conscious. She had….She tried to….” Edge trailed off, not able to bring himself to say the words.

Chris felt his heart stop when he fully realized what Edge was trying to tell him. He backed away from him and slumped against the wall behind him as he tried to take all of this in. Finally he found his voice again. “So what you are telling me is that Kaliegh did not die in that accident, but now because of your lies and deceit, she tried to end her life. Is that what you are saying?” Chris demanded, his blue eyes cold as he tried desperately to keep his temper under control. Right at that moment he wanted nothing more than to wrap his hands around Edge’s neck and squeeze until all of the air was gone from his body.

Edge had just opened his mouth to reply when the doctor came out of the ER and approached the two men. Both Chris and Edge turned anxiously toward the doctor, and waited to hear what he had to say.

The doctor walked past them and motioned for them to follow him into his office so that they could talk. Once everyone was settled, he spoke.

“Well, she is alive. But, it wasn’t easy getting there. We lost her on three separate occasions, and each time it was a little bit more difficult to get her back. I’m worried because the last time it took six minutes to bring her back, and she was with out any oxygen that whole time. Now usually it’s seven minutes before any damage occurs from the lack of oxygen. But even at six minutes the chance is still there, and because that was the third time, the chance becomes even greater. She hasn’t woken up yet, so until then, we won’t know anything definite. She’s being moved to a private room now.” He finished and waited for any questions that Chris or Edge may have.

Edge just sat there in silence. He knew that if Kaliegh did not pull through this, he would never forgive himself. He wasn’t even sure he could forgive himself right now anyway. He had put her through hell just for his own selfish reasons.

“May I see her please?” Was the only thing Chris was able to say. He needed to see her for himself…make sure that it really was her and that she was alive. Anything else he would worry about later.

“Yes, but only for a few minutes.” The doctor answered, smiling slightly at the genuine care and love that he saw shining in Chris’ eyes. He was confident that with this man by her side that Kaliegh would pull though this.

Chris took a deep breath as he stood outside the door to Kaliegh’s room. As he pushed the door open and walked in, he thought he had prepared himself, but he soon found out that nothing could have ever prepared him for this.

All of the air left his lungs and he felt like he had been punched in the stomach as his eyes touched on her the motionless form lying on the hospital bed. She was so pale and all of the wires and tubes going into her body scared him.

He quietly walked over to the side of the bed and pulled up a chair and sat down. He took her hand into his, he was shocked by how cold and small she felt. Then he carefully leaned over and placed a soft kiss on her lips.

“ I love you.” He whispered and then settled back into his chair to watch over her.

Chapter Seven…

Chris had just begun to doze off when a nurse came into the room to check her patient’s vitals. They had been in frequently since he had gotten there, but so far none had asked them to leave like he had thought that they would. Instead he was allowed to say and keep his silent watch.

He opened his eyes when he heard the nurse gasp in surprise as she recognized who he was. She was a huge fan of his. As their eyes met, it was plain for her to see the feelings that he had for the woman lying on the bed next to him. She quickly over came her shock and began tending to her patient. Chris smiled slightly, thankful for her professionalism.

“She’s doing quite well.” The nurse commented, seeing the questioning look in Chris’ eyes as she checked on Kaliegh’s blood pressure and pulse. “Her vitals have stabilized nicely and that is a very good sign.” She heard Chris breathe a sigh of relief as she hung a new IV bag and adjusted the drip. Then after checking everything over once more, she turned to leave. She was almost out the door when she stopped and glanced up from Kaliegh’s chart where she had been recording the latest stats, and then turned back to Chris.

“Looks like most of the lab work has come back. Dr. Parks should be in soon to discuss the results with you. He starts his rounds in about a half-hour.” She informed him just incase he wanted to go grab a bite to eat or something before hand.

The nurses’ expression told him nothing and as he watched her turn once again and leave, he couldn’t help but wonder if the news was good or bad. He prayed like he had never before that it would all be good.

He was suddenly jarred out of his thoughts when he heard Kaliegh’s soft moan as she began to stir. He watched as her eyes fluttered open for a split second and then closed again. Chris leaned forward and took her hand into his again as he brushed the hair back off f her forehead.

“Kal?” He asked in a soft, but urgent voice, hoping that even if she wasn’t able to open her eyes again, she would be able to at least hear his voice and know that he was there with her.

the next thing he knew was that he felt her grip his hand tighter and she opened her eyes again. She blinked a couple of times, trying to get her vision to clear, and as it slowly did, she began to be able to see Chris beside her. As their blue eyes locked, she reached out a shaky hand and gently touched his cheek, needing to assure herself that her mind wasn’t playing tricks on her and that he really was there. After a few seconds, she was satisfied that this really was Chris with her and she thought for sure that she was in Heaven with him. She smiled weakly as she closed her eyes again and drifted back to sleep. Knowing that Chris was there with her, she rested much more peacefully this time around.

Shortly after Kaliegh had drifted back to sleep, Dr. Parks came in to speak with Chris. “Tell me about the bruises on her face.” Was the first thing he wanted to know after settling himself into the other chair across from Chris. He watched the other man’s blue eyes closely and would know if Chris told him the truth or not.

Chris sighed as he glanced over at Kaliegh, taking in the nasty black and blue marks on each side of her face. Then he turned back to Dr. Parks. “I’m not really sure what happened, he didn’t tell me in detail. But I do know that Edge is the one who hit her.”

Chris paused and felt that familiar cold anger toward Edge building inside him again as he thought about the lies and the hell that he had put Kaliegh and himself through. He opened his mouth to speak again, but Dr. Parks stopped him. He had been able to tell immediately that Chris was being honest with him, and did not feel the need to discuss that particular subject again until later.

“That’s all I need to know. We can talk more concerning this when Kaliegh is awake, fully alert, and able to tell us exactly what went on to lead up to her being here. But right now, there is something else that you need to know, and I think that she would be much happier if you were the one to tell her rather than me.” He stopped for a moment and saw the confusion in Chris’ eyes as he tried to figure out just what Dr. Parks was saying to him. Before Chris could say anything, he continued.

“I already talked to Edge before he left concerning this and he said that there is no way that he was responsible. He said that you would be the only one." Dr. Parks said and watched Chris’ expression go from confusion to shock then to happiness. Dr. Parks smiled as he spoke again, happy to be able to give good news in all of the bad that had been happening.

“Well, as you know we did a lot of blood work for various reasons and although we don’t have many of the results back, we do have one….She’s pregnant. I can’t be definite how far along until Kaliegh can give me some dates, but my estimated guess is about six weeks.”

Chris was in shock. For a few moments the only thing he was capable of doing was to just sit there. He lowered his head as what he had just been told began to fully sink in. He felt tears stinging his eyes and although he tried to stop them, he was unable to. Dr. Parks watched him for a moment and then quietly got up and left the room. Although the road would be rough and long, he felt confident that everything was going to be just fine for this young couple.
