Chapter Eight

Kaliegh stood when she heard the key being inserted into the lock at their front door. Knowing that her husband was on the other side, a radiant smile crossed her lips. She had missed him terribly while he was gone on the extended road trip, but with their baby due at any day, he would be home now until she was born and for three months afterward.

She walked quickly toward the door, anxious to see Chris. The baby inside of her sensed her excitement and began to kick and punch all over. Kaliegh smiled as she placed a hand on her belly and gently caressed it “That’s right sweetie. Daddy is home.” She talked quietly to the baby, whose movements became even more frequent at hearing her voice.

Just as she reached the door, it began to open. Unable to wait any longer, she reached out and pulled it open herself. Her smile rapidly faded and her eyes widened n horror when she didn’t find Chris standing on the other side. Instead it was Edge….

Kaliegh screamed as she jerked awake and bolted upright. She took deep breaths to calm her pounding heart as she looked around the darkened room. Slowly she began to realize that she had been dreaming again.

Although she had not seen or heard from him in the eight months since the ordeal with Edge had taken place., she was still having a hard coming to terms with all that had happened. When she was awake, she was usually able to keep her mind off of it, but when she slept, she was constantly plagued by dreams of Edge. Several months of counseling and even hypnosis had done nothing to help her. It didn’t help her that Chris was on the road a good part of the time and that she was pregnant. Which was exactly why her doctors wanted to hold off any further treatment. They thought that after the baby was born all of her pent up feelings would surface and then be forgotten.

Kaliegh sighed as she got up from the couch where she had been napping and glanced up at the clock. She was very surprised to see that she had only an hour before she had to be at the airport to pick up Chris. She smiled as her thoughts turned to her husband. He’d been working extra shows and hadn’t been home in over four months. This lengthened time on the road would allow him to be home for a while after their daughter was born. And although Kaliegh missed him like crazy, she sincerely appreciated his efforts so that he would be able to be there for the birth and three months following. She had a feeling that she was really going to need him in that time.

Kaliegh went to the bathroom, wanting to take a quick shower, change her clothes and put on some make-up before she left. Chris had called earlier and told her that he wanted to take her out to dinner when he got back since he hadn’t been able to for her birthday a month ago. She hadn’t meant to sleep for so long and was thankful that the private airport that they used was only a short dive from their home in Winnipeg or she would have never been able to make it in time.

She arrived at the airport with only seconds to spare. As she burst through the entrance doors, she looked up at the board to see that the jet that Chris was on was landing right at that moment. As she walked quickly toward the gate, she felt her pulse began to race and her body began to tremble. She laughed softly at herself thinking that if he had this kind of effect on her before she’d even seen him, what would it be like when she actually did see him. She would find out sooner than the thought because the next thing she was aware of was that he was standing directly in front of her.

Kaliegh looked up at him and when their blue eyes locked, she was gone. She stepped forward at the same time that he did and wrapped her arms around him as he pulled her into his embrace. As he lowered his lips to hers, their baby kicked hard enough for to be able to feel. Chris pulled back and gazed lovingly at her as he gently caressed her belly, causing more movements from their child.

“I think some one is trying to welcome her daddy back home.” Kaliegh said, her own eyes damp with tears just from seeing the tender expression on Chris’ face.

“And I’m so glad to be here.” Chris replied as he bent his head to hers again

The instant their lips connected, a fire was ignited inside of him that would not wait to be put out. Chris quickly broke the kiss and took a hold of her hand, leading her toward the restroom. When Kaliegh realized what he was up to, she stopped dead in her tracks and turned him around to look at her.

“Chris! Are you insane? This is a public place!” She exclaimed and then started laughing as she realized that it really didn’t bother her as much as she thought it did, but she was still surprised.

She was even more surprised when Chris pulled her tight against him, and ignoring the few other people around them, he claimed her lips in a kiss that left her completely breathless and needing more. This time when he lead her away, she went with him willingly.

Once inside the bathroom, Kaliegh was relieved to find that it was made for only one person and it had a lock on the door. Any reservations she had left her, and as soon as Chris did have that door closed and locked, they were all over each other. In moments both had removed only the necessary articles of clothing. Chris lifted her easily and pinned her against the wall as her legs went around his hips and her arms around his neck. She gasped with desire and bent her head, biting into his shoulder as she felt him shift her position slightly and then they became one.

In only seconds, both had reached their peak and his mouth came crashing down on hers to silence their cries of pleasure as they plunged over the edge together. Chris continued to hold her there, kissing her deeply as they waited for the breathing and heartbeats to return to normal. After a few minutes he pulled back and stared into her eyes. Kaliegh smiled back at him, and then began laughing.

“You feel better now?” She asked, still laughing. Never had she ever done anything like this before in her life. She hadn’t wanted to either, until she met Chris. Not even when she was married to Edge had she even thought about it. Only with Chris.

Chris was silent at first as he was still lost in her eyes. Finally he spoke again. “God, I love you so much.” He whispered as he ran a finger down her cheek. Then he found her lips in another passionate kiss as he slowly lowered her to the floor.

“I love you too, baby.” She said as she hugged him tight for a few moments, thoroughly enjoying the feel of him next to her. Finally the broke apart and began getting dressed again.

When they were finished, Chris pulled her close once again and looked down at her with a wicked grin curving his lips. “And yes, I do feel better…for now. I don’t know how long its going to last though.”

Kaliegh took in a sharp breath when she saw that familiar fire in his eyes and knew what the rest of the night held for them. She couldn’t wait.

“Uh…maybe we better get out of here then. I don’t think they’re going to let us occupy this restroom all night.” Kaliegh commented and then placed a quick kiss on his lips before they moved toward the door.

As they stepped out, they received some very funny looks from the people outside, but Chris and Kaliegh only laughed as they quickly hurried out the door to the safety of the waiting limo. Once inside, they were once again all over each other, neither of them able to get enough of the other.

“Chris, if we’re going out for dinner, we better continue this later.” Kaliegh said breathlessly after another demanding kiss from her husband. She really couldn’t believe the words coming out of her mouth. The last thing she wanted to do was escape his sweet torture, even if it was only for a short time.

“Do you really want to go out for dinner?” Chris asked, knowing full well by the look in her eye that dinner was the furthest thing from her mind.

Kaliegh could only stare at him as she slowly shook her head. The only thing she wanted was to be with him.

“That’s what I thought.” He stated with a smile as he turned and told the driver to take them home rather than to the restaurant.

They arrived home a short time later and after putting every room other way to their bedroom to good use, they loved each other there until the sun was ready to come up. They had only been asleep for a short time when Kaliegh was awakened suddenly by a rather uncomfortable tightening in her belly. She squealed with excitement as she realized what was happening and woke Chris out of a deep sleep in the process. He jumped out of bed so fast that he tripped over his own feet and landed on his face. Now fully awake, he looked up at her in confusion as it dawned on him that he had no idea what was going on.

Kaliegh saw the questioning in his eyes and smiled. “Well, I think its safe to say that you made it back home just in time. I think some one wants to come out and meet her daddy.” And she was right. Several hours later, the 6lb 2oz. baby girl made her appearance, making both of her parents very happy.

Chapter Nine

~~~~~~~
Though it hurts me--
way deep inside--
when I took a look--
and found that you're not there--
~~~~~~

My dearest Chris~~

Well baby, I guess if you are reading this, it means that I am no longer with you. I wrote this before I became too ill to function and asked our attorney to hold on to it until the time came that I was no longer alive. I tried to be brave and fight the disease, but as time wore on, it became more and more obvious to me that the treatments weren’t working like they should be and I knew that my battle was becoming closer to being over with each passing day.

I’m sorry that I wasn’t able to be with you longer. We didn’t have nearly enough time together. I used to dream of you and I when we were old. We’d always be sitting out on the porch in our rocking chairs as the sun went down talking about all of our memories. I wanted that so much, but I have come to realize that I am more thankful for the time that I was able to have with you and cannot dwell on things that might have been. The time I had with you was with out a doubt the best ever in my life. You made me so happy, more than anybody ever could, and I want to thank you for sharing your life with me. I have no regrets. I knew what it was to truly love and be loved. And we have a beautiful daughter together that I was able to spend three wonderful years with.

~~~~~
Pictures of you--
they’re still on my mind--
you had the smile--
that could light up the world--
~~~~~

Chris paused from his reading and smiled softly as he thought back to the first time that he had met Kaliegh. He could still remember exactly how she looked and what she was wearing. But most of all, the one thing that stuck most in his mind was her smile. As he looked down at his precious daughter that was asleep on his lap, he fully realized just how much she resembled Kaliegh, especially her eyes and her smile. The little girl also possessed her mother’s gentle nature. The similarities between them were uncanny, almost as if little Emily was an exact replica of Kaliegh. Sighing, Chris bent his head and continued reading.

~~~~~
Now it rains--
it seems the sun never shines--
and I drive--
down--
this lonely lonely road--
I got this feelin'--
girl I gotta let you go--
~~~~

Baby, I know that you are sad right now and that’s okay. But please don’t dwell on it forever. You are a wonderful, wonderful person and you have so much to offer. I don’t want you to be alone forever. You don’t have to forget me forever, but I know that with time, you will be able to love again. That is all I ask of you. Please promise me this.

~~~~~
Cause now you’ve got to fly--
fly to the angels--
heaven awaits your heart--
and flowers bloom in your name--
you've got to fly--
fly to the angels--
all the stars in the night--
shine in your name--
~~~~~~

Well, this is all for now. I’m so sleepy, I can’t seem to be able to keep my eyes open anymore. I just want to close my eyes. I know I’ll see you there when I do and then all the pain will go away. I’m still so angry that this had to happen to me, but I’m learning to accept it.

I’m not saying ‘good-bye’ here either. That is too permanent. I don’t feel that way. I think that at some time, you and I are going to see each other again. I don’t know when, but I feel that it will happen. Until then, I’m going to miss you.

I love you, baby.

~~~~~
I'm gonna miss you--
gonna miss you girl--
~~~~~~~~~

Chris let out a ragged breath as tears filled his eyes. His heart ached and sadness hung heavy all around him. He couldn’t believe…he didn’t want to believe that she was gone. He had no idea how he was going to be able to go on with his life with out her. For their daughter, he would though. He vowed to her that he would find a way. A tear rolled down his cheek and landed on the note that he held in his hand. Chris sighed and folded the piece of paper and held it close to his heart.

“I love you too.” He whispered , his voice gruff with emotion. “And I miss you…Miss you so much.”
