The contest started late on Saturday, 11 April, because we decided to wait for some travelling waveskiers who promised to enter. It was a waste of time, they never pitched. Be that as it may the contest started in gloriously warm autumn weather with perfect 3 - 4 ft waves at Black Bottom, Pollok Beach. Because the number of entrants was not as expected (due to our non-arriving travellers!) we decided to split the contest into two main events: an Individual event and a Team based event. The individual event was enjoyed by all and, because of the late start, the semis and final heats were held over to the next day.
The next day's weather decided to be unkind and we arrived at the beach facing a freshening onshore wind and overcast conditions. We decided to move to Miller's because it had cleaner waves than Black Bottom, and an added bonus was a spill-off crowd of spectators from the nearby Splash Festival festivities. During the course of the day we were buzzed by stunting aircraft, racing jetskis and various forms of sailing craft. Everyone enjoyed the event in spite of the rather dismal 2 - 3 ft onshore slop, and the Team event, where a high-seeded surfer was paired with a low-seeded surfer to form a competing team, was especially competitive. Surfers attempted to snake each other or hassle each other into poor sections of the take-off area, and it proved to be quite an exciting event. The results follow:

1. Johann Momberg
2. Ronnie Ackerman
3. Marius Du Plessis
4. Naude Kotze
5. Hendri Kroukamp
6. Rudi Joubert

2. Ronnie Ackerman / Eugene Van Tonder
