| Hayward Highlights! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Wheezer, Tweedy and Beak just returned from another fun filled weekend in Hayward Wisconsin. This is 7 straight years for Beak and Wheezer and 9 for Tweedy. Something strange happens when you cross the 45th parallel and head north. You enter a very different world. The plants and animals are very different, the night skies are brighter, even the people are different. When you hear someone talking about Jesse, they are talking about Ventura, not Jackson. That is refreshing. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| The third term Mayor of Hayward drives the Zamboni and plays goalie for the home town Muskies and he sponsors the Hayward Beer drinking contest. Wheezer, Tweedy and Beak put 15 beers on the score board Friday night, and the rest of the Bombers and their wives added a few hundred more for a grand total of 398 beers. The home town Muskies finished with 410. That is the second year that we were edged out by a few beers. One more Duffer would have given us another Beer Trophy and restored our honor. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The Hockey was the greatest! I would rather watch those guys fly up and down the ice than the Black Hawks. The Bombers won the first game easily, then they played a great team from the Twin Cities area. Tweedy set up the first goal, then scored 2 of his own. His team fell behind by two with only 3 minutes to play. Tweedy scored his hat trick in the final minute to send it into overtime. The first overtime was scoreless, so they went into a shoot out where they lost, 8-7. The Sunday game for third place was an amazing display of offensive power by a group of players that had 8 hours of sleep collectively. The Bombers had a slight advantage going into the game when Beak and Wheezer came in with a Hockey bag and sticks. The opponents figured that they had an easy game, so they went up for a couple beers. When they came out for the game Beak and Wheezer were in the stands with the wives and the Bombers won 12-10. Tweedy introduced Duffer's Hockey to the North woods. He was laughing all through the game. His laugher could be heard on the bench, in the locker room and on the ice. Several of his team mates want to join the Duffers. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| The Indian Casino was not kind to the Duffers. Beak went through a roll of quarters in ten minutes, so he sat down and watched for an hour. At the going rate, he figured he made $60 per hour. Wheezer's brother, Keith, lost at a slower rate and Wheezer did the best, it took him over an hour to lose $40. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Look West, Young Man! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Friday March 19,1999 Venus will have an apparent close call with Saturn. They appear to be close together, actually they are over 88,000,000 miles apart. To make this event even better, a 2 day old crescent moon will enter the scenario and give us a look at it's dark side. The bright crescent is lit up by sun shine and the faint gray oval will be lit up by earth shine. That young moon will wax into the second blue moon in three months. January had 2 full moons and February had none, so March will have it's second full moon on the 31st. The crescent moon will pass 5 degrees south of Venus at 7 P.M. and it will pass 3 degrees south of Saturn at 9 P.M. in the west on Friday, so look up when you enter the rink on Friday. The Sun is entering a very active stage of it's 11 year cycle. Watch the northern sky all year for the Northern Lights. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| His Honor the Mayor brought in 25 pizzas on Saturday night, so we didn't have to go to the Hut, Hut, Hut or the Super America Gas station for a meal. Wheezer and Keith went to a bar and watched Holyfield get beat to a pulp. There never was enough beer on the floor to get a good beer slide going. These players have learned to hold their liquor as they mature. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Klinger Extends Scoring Streak to 2 Games! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| DP (Duffer Press) Bridgeview, IL Duffer Reporter Rich Storm Dave Cushing strained his left knee during warm-ups Friday night, hindering him from moving effectively to his left. The Blues took advantage of the one-legged goal-tender early. Bezerk started the scoring by slipping one past the left side as he was sliding head first. Mazurk assisted on the next score by feeding the Son of Frank up the middle for a early 2-0 lead. The Blues also jumped ahead in the meaningful game when Harvey flipped a back-hander into the net at point blank range. This goal too, was scored on the left side. The Flower also scored later on to give the Blues a 2-0 meaningful lead and 6-0 total after the second period. Feeling frustrated after allowing 2 goals by "The Flower", the White team of T. Morgan, Beavis, Johnny Z, and Klinger, would not stand down for a stump shut-out. Realizing the talent and force they had at their disposal, they turned to their veteran defenseman/forward (when Frank is out of town), Bill Giffune, to break the drought. Early in the third, Klinger slipped one past Stump on a break-away to bring his scoring streak to two games and cut the meaningful lead in half. The second White goal came as Morgan scored on a wrap-around. However, it was a case of too little, too late. Hit-man solidified the meaningful game with another goal to Cushing's left side. It was an uplifting goal for the Hit-man as he struggled just before just to get over the boards for his shift. The Son of Frank finished the scoring with his third goal of the game (left of Cushing.) and an 8-2 Blue victory. 3-1 Meaningful. - Rich Storm |
