   5/15/04 - Saint Alberts JV

We got the opportunity to make up a JV game that was missed or canceled earlier this year with St. Alberts.  We took it.  The more games that we can get these kids the better.  We traveled to St. Alberts to play them at 1pm on Saturday.  We started out real slow, we weren't marking up and we looked, simply put, lost.  They scored two off of cross's to the middle and header's to the net in the first 5 minutes.  They scored a third at the 15 minute mark to go up 3-0.  At this point I began to wonder what we would do.  I am very proud of what I seen take place on the field and the bench.  We didn't quit or roll over.  We fought back.  We took Luke Thompson along to get him some time back on the field.  He was cleared on Friday for full contact from his Appendix surgery 2 weeks ago.  Luke went in and started working with the boys and helped to control the middle.  The first goal comes off of a corner.  Luke sets the ball and sends it in.  James Duysen is right there to put it away.  Then just before the half Luke and Adam Larkin connect on a good combination and it is 3-2 at the half.  At the half we talk about two things, mark up and communicate.  There was next to no talking going on in the first half.  If you don't talk, soccer is a very difficult game.  Start talking and good things will come.  It makes the game a lot easier.  5 minutes into the second half Adam finds himself alone and moving in on the keeper one on one.  Adam makes the move to the side, beats the keeper, and we are tied.  Things are picking up now and there is some energy on the field.  St. Alberts puts away the forth goal first and hangs on to pick up the win.  We tried, we didn't quit, and above all we held our heads high and didn't roll over.  We are proud of the way they fought back and hung in there.  It turned out to be an exciting game to watch considering how it started out.  JV is now basically 500 for the season and will have a chance to go out and end the season on top on Tuesday against Thomas Jefferson.  The game will be at 4:30 at City Park.  Join us for the final regular game of the season.
