This week was a special celebration of the second decade of disc golf by the Flying Deuces. Festivities began Friday night as the Deuces and their families gathered at Cindy & Rich Norris' house for dinner and a trip down memory lane. A collection of old newsletters along with a 25 question history quiz highlighted the evening.Of the past tournament champions, John Kimball was the earliest name on the trophy (Summer, 1980), playing in this tournament. Rich Norris believes he has played in all forty-plus tournaments listed on the traveling club trophy.

After haggling for handicaps, the evening came to close, as a 6AM start time the next morning was necessary to complete the scheduled three rounds of play at the three courses of West Valley college.

John, Rich, Eric, Ken. Jim and Doug

Saturday morning brought six of the current Deuces to contend for the club trophy. In addition to Rich and John, were Eric Mickelson, Doug Korns, Jim Hauer and Ken Joye. The odd highlight of the tournament was Doug Korns being attacked by a swarm of yellow jackets at about 6:30AM and being tough enough to finish all three rounds with at least a dozen stings all over his body. Big-arm Ken Joye was able to reach roof twice, but was able to recover one disc with a clever climbing effort.

Frint Row: Ken, John, Eric and Jim

A closest to the hole contest occurred on each round. Ten dollar winners were John Kimball, Ken Joye and Rich Norris. When all the dust had settled and handicaps figured into the scoring, John Kimball emerged as the winner by a single stroke over Rich Norris. John had simply shot the lowest score on each round, seting a pace that outdid everyone's handicap. Jim Hauer had some fine play to take third place. Eric, Ken and Doug, respectively finished in the remaining places. Prizes included cash, discs, games, CD-ROMs, and other assorted "gifts".

Rich Norris congratulates John Kimball as Winner of the Second Decade.
