March 13th, 1999
Sam, Jim, Chris and a recovering Doug met at Cuesta II for the weekly round. Sam received the honors at the first tee as the best round for a returnee from the previous week. Doug was the only player able to manage a par at hole one though. Out of bounds shots bit both Sam and Chris at hole two. Jim double deuced holes four and five to erase an earlier 5. Those turned out to be the only deuces on the font nine and left Jim in the lead at a par 27. Doug was 2 strokes back as Sam and Chris were in the thirties.
Doug and Jim traded deuces at hole ten and eleven respectively, as Jim maintained his lead through hole fourteen. Coming up to the tricky hole with the lamp pole on the parking island, Doug remarked how this hole had been the turning point for many previous rounds. Sam had no trouble has he called for a skip shot through the parking lot and then engineered it perfectly for a deuce! Everybody else suffered a parking lot OB shot, as Jim actually claimed 2 OB shots to give up some of the lead he'd accumulated. Doug managed the only par at the next hole to climb into a tie for the lead. A make up hole at seventeen produced no change as Jim, Doug and Chris all scored deuces. At the last hole, Jim played his approach a little too aggressively, leaving him with a long putt for a par. When Jim didn't convert it, Doug's final par turned out to be good for a one stroke victory for the day. Final scores, Doug - 56, Jim - 57, Sam - 63, and Chris - 71.

Hats off to Doug (on the comeback trail) as Winner of the Week,
