SATURDAY 2/8/1997
GAME 1 8:00 Lightning 0 vs. Snow Devils 1
This was Lightning first game. Somewhat dissapointed to have our first game so early in the
morning when everyone arrived late the night before and also with one hour difference to
make it even earlier for the team with a wakeup cal set for 5:30 am local time that in reality
is 4:30 for us coming from Las Vegas one hour behind. Most of the team arrived late the day
before and several as late as 11:00 PM. Very dissappointed with this year organization of
the PDT18. Scheduling our first game so early in the morning, been an out of state team and
scheduling our 2nd game at 4:30 enough late to get the energy vanished in other things.
This journey didn't really met the expectations of such notorious event. And
to make things even more disorganized, our game on Sunday scheduled at 4:00 PM, when many
had a flight departure for 7:00 PM including the coach. Needless to say if the team had a chance
in the first two position of the table, we had to actually wait the result of last game
scheduled for 5:20 PM between Snow Devils and Galaxy. The officiating was terrible and all
together a disaster in a
poor organization in tournament coordination especially when accomodating teams from out of state with a more
a more reasonable schedule. We are all vey disgusted this year that we are not sure if we'll ever
attend this
tournament in the future, not only much for these few reasons, and because when the kid morale has
been put down on the kids, there is no more fun in the competition.
We had a great time the prior year
and it seemed to have met these few simple requirement but this time was a disaster.
Our first game with local Snow Devils was played almost with the kids halfway asleep and although
they
woke up after a while they played really well do to these circumstances, but the officials ruined
the enjoyment and the fun when allowed a goal that
started off side within 10 yards from the center of the field, when all the defensive line pushed
up to trap the forwards off side. Nothing more to say. This among other things started to
destroy everyone feelings and
the rest thereafter went even worst.
As far as for the game itself, Lightning dominated the game with many chances
to finish that went wide or too central for easy saves by the keeper.
On statistics, Lightning had 75%
possession of the ball, had about 15 shoots on goal versus only 5 for Snow Devils.
Caught offsides 3
times while Snow Devils over a dozen and another 7-8 unaccounted for 'cause the officials didn't
made the call. The Wheather was nice and warm, a perfect day for a tournament.
Lightning would had preferred to play later at
around 9 or 10 am and maybe the second at 1 or 2 pm or something closer to accomodating scheduling
and eventually the results could have been totally different.
Game 2 with Trintoc United Galaxy
Game 3 with American Eagels
